original title:  Aero Lag when opening and closing windows in Windows 7

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK since we've got the ball rolling here, I am editing this to better reflect what is going on. The below links are just a few out of hundreds of post you will find on the internet about this Aero Lag. Some offer workarounds and some don't. I just Googled Aero Lag and this was from the first page.

If you have the same problem, please provide:

  1. What type of graphics card you have.
  2. What kind of drivers are you using (Win7 preinstalled or manufacturer's drivers)
  3. Was your version of Win7 an update or clean install.
  4. What motherboard you have.

From the sounds of it, Microsoft is looking for a fix.

I also ask for a forum admin to make this a sticky as many people are experiencing this problem.

**Have solved my problem withAeor lag.**Reinstall Windows 7 U64 twice with new/old driver.

Replaced Gforce 8800GTX with Gforce GTX480.

Have spent many days on this problem without a solution.

But here is a very simple solution that works for me.

I removed the USB extension cablefor my CreativeHS-1200WirelessUSB Gaming Headset.

Aero lags when Iused USB extension cable and headset charging.

Without USB extension cable, everything is fine.

So it think itis a voltagedrop in the USB extension cable, causes the system to lag. ?

Hope it can help.

Sincerely,

Dennis Psilander

For info, I'm running an ASUS 8800GS TOP with the 191.07 drivers (installed after properly cleaning out the baked in drivers) on a clean Win7-HP x64 install and I run the MS Weather Gadget as well. Problem free now (after that driver sweeper had shooed out the residents).

I'm wondering why everyone seems to be using old Nvidia drivers. I'm using Win7-HP x64 and the latest whql drivers on the web site are tha 191.07 October release, clearly released just before Win7 in preparation. I would expect problems with drivers released at a time when they were not expected to cope with a Win7 retail release environment.

Has anyone other than me tried installing the latest drivers after cleaning out the baked in Win7 ones with a suitable driver cleaner? I would have thought that would be the first thing people would try. What am I missing? Why does this not appear to be popular, is there something wrong with the latest drivers that I am not aware of?

Well I'm back! After a few days with a second clean install, I haven't had any lag at all, until now. Guess what I did not but only an two hours before the lag returned. I turned on a Gadget, just one...the weather one. I was having a good time watching the new Stargate Universe and the lag hit hard. I've turned off the gadget, but it still returned. Maybe there is a corrolation or not, just an idea.

Also I rewrote the first post. Please read it.

    1. NVIDIA GTS 250
    2. Version 8.16.11.9107 from NVIDIA website (Win7 64-Bit drivers)
    3. Clean install (Twice) (Win7 64-Bit)
