original title:  Aero Lag when opening and closing windows in Windows 7

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK since we've got the ball rolling here, I am editing this to better reflect what is going on. The below links are just a few out of hundreds of post you will find on the internet about this Aero Lag. Some offer workarounds and some don't. I just Googled Aero Lag and this was from the first page.

If you have the same problem, please provide:

  1. What type of graphics card you have.
  2. What kind of drivers are you using (Win7 preinstalled or manufacturer's drivers)
  3. Was your version of Win7 an update or clean install.
  4. What motherboard you have.

From the sounds of it, Microsoft is looking for a fix.

I also ask for a forum admin to make this a sticky as many people are experiencing this problem.

**Have solved my problem withAeor lag.**Reinstall Windows 7 U64 twice with new/old driver.

Replaced Gforce 8800GTX with Gforce GTX480.

Have spent many days on this problem without a solution.

But here is a very simple solution that works for me.

I removed the USB extension cablefor my CreativeHS-1200WirelessUSB Gaming Headset.

Aero lags when Iused USB extension cable and headset charging.

Without USB extension cable, everything is fine.

So it think itis a voltagedrop in the USB extension cable, causes the system to lag. ?

Hope it can help.

Sincerely,

Dennis Psilander

I just installed Windows7, finally scrubbing over the WindowsVista installation on my laptop. I was appalled to discover the jerky open/closing window animations after it running so smoothly with Vista on the same machine! I checked the net and sure enough the problem is global. Briefly running 'Magnifier' temporary solves the jitter to a small degree but its still not great (removes the hesitation on 'close' but its still there on 'open' for me). But at least this proves that it is indeed A BUG! How the **** has such an obvious graphical fault been left unchecked for so long? I thought W7 was supposed to be an improvement over Vista?

well, it seems that not even SP1 can solve the problem. well at least, windows 8 doesn't have this problem and, who knows, it might be the perfect windows yet.

    PC with the following specs:

Athlon II 250 3GHz, 4 GB Kingston HyperX 1066 Mhz, ATi HD 4850 512 MB, SSD Corsair F60. (6.6 WEI)

I have this issue since Windows 7 first appeared, checked both x86 and x64 Professional versions without/with SP1. It stutters even if I open and close the Magnifier.

Okay, I have to correct myself. The aero lag is still there... It's better now, but it still exists...

For me, the aero lag is fixed, if only a few windows/applications are opened. With many windows/applications started, the lag is often still there.

    For example:

10 Explorer windows: Aero lag is there

3 Explorer windows: Aero lag isn't there (since SP1)
