I'm not denying you guys are seeing something - you're seeing the different way Windows 7 opens its windows vs. older kernels.  What I'm saying is that you are making a mountain out of a molehill.  It is easily negated by disabling that one checkbox.  This thread of over 100 posts is laughable based on the fact that disabling that option puts things back the way they were in Windows 2000, basically.

Look at how metrosexual you're being about what is essentially a non-starter.  You had to go FRAME BY FRAME and analyze the video to even notice a problem.  What does that tell you?

I gave up on this thread a long time ago when I realized that the people driving it had way too much time on their hands. Yes, they are correct. There is an ever so slight lag (or snap to) on opening and a slight hesitation on closing. But it's really not worth worrying about in a world where 30,000 people are being sent to a pointless war or health care reform can't get passed, etc. (well, you get my point).

What I'm REALLY writing about is the the "metrosexual" comment. What do you mean by that precisely? And, if it's what I think it is, you really need to check yourself. That kind of bigotry isn't to be tolerated on a public forum in 2009.

You apparently have a problem with reading comprehension.

I said I have no comment about Notepad or the other windows because you were SHAKING. Shaking video tends to make it much harder to notice a frame "snap" or missed frames when you are shooting video.

Now, coming from Windows Vista, why would you want me to DISABLE the Animate Windows? This is essentially telling me to go back to the way WinXP and all other Windows behavior. Why would I want to do that when we clearly found a bug, and are trying to tell Microsoft to fix it? What's the harm in that?

I don't know about you, but when I use my PCs, I use them to the full extent. When I have 30+ windows open and am constantly closing/opening new windows, this bug becomes outright ANNOYING. It looks like the computer is going to freeze, and sometimes messes up my workflow. Point in case? Sonar Cakewalk, where I have to edit a musical note by note. Of course, each note has its own window. It's a pain in the a** to have this "snap" or "lag" because it causes me to sometimes put in a wrong value or close a wrong window.

And again, I had to go frame by frame because your video was shaky. I don't know how much clearer I can make myself.

You still failed to answer my question. How spread over 10 different systems with totally different hardware, not the least of my personal rig, which has a Geforce GTX 260, and the issue is still present.

I would really like to see a system without the lag. But because I do not sit in front of your PC at home, I need a very very good video. Youtube HD is good, but I need a slow motion video, because even Youtube HD is not perfect (and the cam is sometimes a little bit shaking).

A few comments:

1. It's not a problem caused by slow hardware, because there are people with high end hardware and they have the lag.
2. Vista could do animations smoothly, so I expect, that the newer Windows 7 can do the same.
3. Turn the animations off is not a solution. I want lag-free animations.
4. The people with the lag aren't crazy, the lag they see is actually there. It's only the question if everybody has the lag or if only a few people have the lag. Look at the other Youtube Videos, the lag is existing.
5. Yes, the open and close animations are only a small part of Windows 7, but you see the animations a lot of times. And if you know, that Vista can do the animations smoothly, then you want also smooth animations in Windows 7. Imagine, your new TFT has 5 visible defective pixels. There are maybe millions of nondefective pixels, but these 5 are driving you crazy. It's the same with Windows 7 and this lag. It's a small part, but it's annoying.

First of all, let's put this topic aside for a moment, you can't say "if I don't experience it, therefore it doesn't exist".  How shallow a statement is that.  This forum is full of people having problem with Windows, I personally don't have their problems, but I don't laugh at them and call their problems are "myths" and are busted by me, just because I don't have those problems. 

Second of all, you were saying it is a performance issue.  If you want to make comment about system specs, you may at least read all the posts.  There are people who have 5850, 280GTX, and fast multi-core CPU.  I have C2Q, 4GB RAM, and 8800GT.  In fact, it's more noticeable if you have fast system, because when anything else is smooth, it makes the open/close stutter stands out. 

About the difference W7 vs Vista in handling Aero, that's also what I've heard, but that's exactly the problem.  If W7 is supposedly faster than Vista, how come we (those who have used Vista before) don't have problem in Vista, but can notice the animation problem in W7.　

And it's possible that because W7 changes the way it handles UI animation, the code is different, that's why Vista doesn't have this problem.

The word "lag" can be misleading.  It is not about the speed of open/close.  It is about missing frame(s) in the animation, or a frame stays too long relatively to others,  so the whole animation is not feeling smooth.

It's more noticeble when closing than opening, and instead of Notepad, try something heavy, e.g. IE with lots content before closing, and adjust it to bigger window.  I suggest you using the registry mod that enables slow motion, to see what it's like for you. 

Your video is not stable and high fps enough to see it clearly.  In order to duplicate what eyes can see directly, you need to record at very high fps, and playback at high fps, regardless of using camera or on-screen recorder.  I think on-screen recorder might be the better bet, or use the registry mod to enable slow motion to record.
