original title:  Aero Lag when opening and closing windows in Windows 7

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK since we've got the ball rolling here, I am editing this to better reflect what is going on. The below links are just a few out of hundreds of post you will find on the internet about this Aero Lag. Some offer workarounds and some don't. I just Googled Aero Lag and this was from the first page.

If you have the same problem, please provide:

  1. What type of graphics card you have.
  2. What kind of drivers are you using (Win7 preinstalled or manufacturer's drivers)
  3. Was your version of Win7 an update or clean install.
  4. What motherboard you have.

From the sounds of it, Microsoft is looking for a fix.

I also ask for a forum admin to make this a sticky as many people are experiencing this problem.

**Have solved my problem withAeor lag.**Reinstall Windows 7 U64 twice with new/old driver.

Replaced Gforce 8800GTX with Gforce GTX480.

Have spent many days on this problem without a solution.

But here is a very simple solution that works for me.

I removed the USB extension cablefor my CreativeHS-1200WirelessUSB Gaming Headset.

Aero lags when Iused USB extension cable and headset charging.

Without USB extension cable, everything is fine.

So it think itis a voltagedrop in the USB extension cable, causes the system to lag. ?

Hope it can help.

Sincerely,

Dennis Psilander

    hello!

    My system is:

    M/B: Asus P5KPL AM SE

    CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

Gfx: GeForce GTS 250 1Gb (Asus)

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 32Mb

    RAM:Kingston  DDR2 800

I'm experiencing the same laggy problem when opening and closing windows, and another bug that I have, is that under Windows Vista I can put 1152x864@72Hz with my dell E771p, and under windows Seven there's no way to put that resolution, doesn't apeears in resolution list. I have already changed drivers, and the problem stills occuring. The laggy windows and the impossibility to put a desired suported monitor resolution. If you can't solve the laggy problem, tell me at least how to solve de resolution problem, I can't push it to 72Hz, only 60Hz under 1152x864...

    Thanks!

Well let me just bump this back to the top. I must say, I am quite tired of this. I've had to reboot nearly a dozen times today. I even disabled all the performance options and it still lagged up. I would watch videos, but they speed up the time til lag. I'd use safe mode, but audio is disabled there! This is getting on my nerves! Since the I disabled all the Aero options the only lag I get is with videos/music.

With how fast most peoples machines are now days, intel or amd this should not be an issue.  Like most people are thinking its a code bug within Windows 7.   Microsoft knows about it and is looking into it...all we can do now is just wait for a update from them..if that ever happens.

Well I think I should had of knocked on wood, cause it's back, hardcore. I want to try changing some IRQ's to see if that will work, but it does not seem like it's possible. Windows won't let me, and even if my motherboard won't let me. I even turned on the "Plug and Play" option. I did notice one thing while comparing non-lag to lag environments, when there is lag with no other windows open except the AMD performance monitor, cores 3 and 4 were constantly over 60% usage. But when there was no lag, with 4 IE open, and the performance moniter open, all cores stayed below 10% usage. So trying to make a point here, could it be CPU related?
