I receive Aero Lag when opening and closing windows in Windows 7

The slow motion effect works with Windows 7 using the registry change; I just did it myself.

I'm confused, is there something we can change in regedit to get rid of the lag?

Ok people, my thread was here, and I had a Microsoft mod posting in there, and we didn't really get anywhere.

Anyhow, I'm copying and pasting from there the most important aspects of me showing why the problem is WINDOWS 7 and NOT hardware.

I was doing a fresh install of Win7 x64 Ultimate, and I was wondering if anyone noticed this issue that I've noticed regarding Win7. The windows, while maximizing and minimizing, stutter/pause for a millisecond before actually maximizing/minimizing. Vista x64 does not do this; the maximize/minimize animation is smooth. This happens on both my work rig and my home rig, which have both OSes installed as a dual boot.

And the issue with the minimizing/maximizing is not an issue with my machine. I tried it on 3 different computers, all with totally different hardware, including different video card manufacturers. And the fact that a thread that I just found, which exists here, portends that this is not just me; it's a problem, and needs to be fixed.

ALL computers encounter it, regardless of what type of hardware or drivers they use. Every single computer that I have seen that has Windows 7 on it exhibits the problem. I went to Best Buy the other day and systematically went to each and every computer and laptop on display, and opened/closed windows; they ALL exhibit the freeze/pause/stutter prevalent in the videos on Youtube.

On my own machines, I went into Computer > Advanced System Settings. Each of them I have set to "Adjust for best appearance". This makes absolutely no difference in the way the windows maximize/minimize; they all exhibit the freeze/pause/stutter. I then took the liberty of checking, unchecking, and testing each and every one of the options available in that window; again, this has NO EFFECT.

I'm surprised your computer does not exhibit this behavior. The onus is on you to prove that; I'd like you to post a video that we can all view on Youtube that shows this problem does not exist on your machine; this way, we can start looking elsewhere on what the problem might be.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for taking the video.

However, the video is inconclusive; it's too low quality and shaky for us to really determine whether or not you're having the problem. From the way it looks just from that video I must agree that it does look smooth.

But what are we to say about all the videos we have been posting regarding this, and that it happens on a wide variety of different hardware? It cannot possibly be that all of them using outdated drivers or BIOS.

The problem with using a cell phone camera to capture this problem is that they are too slow; they are not fast enough to capture the point that it shows the stutter. For instance, I used my own cell phone to capture a video of this problem. When I play it back, you cannot see the stutter. It looks perfect, as in your video, when in reality, the stutter exists. As you can see, it looks like there is no problem, but the problem definitely exists. The videos on Youtube are a perfect example of the problem.

As a matter of fact, if you want to see the problem FIRST HAND, please follow these directions to enable slow-motion aero effects on Windows 7. Do this on your Win 7 computer, and then do it on a Win Vista computer. I bet you a million dollars that you'll see what I'm talking about then.

To expound on this, I just did this on a Vista computer. The animation is 100% smooth, whereas on Win7, there is a type of "snapping" that is occurring at the end of the animation (when a window is being opened), and at the beginning of the animation (when the window is being closed). This does not happen on Vista.

Please note that this type of behavior occurs on ALL these systems using Windows 7. Going back to Vista on each of these systems, the stutter disappears totally; Vista does not have these problems.

I wouldnt say its lag...I just watched my Performace Tab in task manager and my CPU usage didn't even budge.  It could be a number of things...I'm guessing the people that arn't noticing it don't really care about it and don't post it...but the select bunch like use see it and its annoying.    It's hard to explain but it seems they missed a step in the transitioning of closing a window...or they decided to change it all together and throw us a curve ball...

TOOL, I am not sure if you are talking about everyone or just yourself, but it IS while minimizing and it IS while maximizing. It IS lag/stutter because the frame rate drops considerably. The window is supposed to move in a fluid motion, not choppy.

You must be having some other issues...because minimizing and maximizing a windows is fluid and crisp on my end, and probably everone elses end too.  The problem people are seeing is when they are opening or closing the Window (Example say an Internet Browser) or any other windows that you open...it stutters or lags for a milisecond, just enought our eyes catch it...  Go look on your and you will see what were talking about.
