How do I disable the Windows 7 Magnifier?

How do I disable Windows 7 Magnifier all together? It have the check box unchecked for starting at startup but my mouse button still starts it. I use to use that button for something else and Windows will not let me map it to the other application.

Any help would be appreciated.

Give this a try:

Click on the Start button

All Programs

Accessories

Ease of Access Center

Then click on 'Make the computer easier to use' near the bottom.

Then unchecked 'Turn On Magnifier'. Hit OK and you're done.

    I was able stop magnifier from automatically launching (Via WinKey plus "+" or "-") by renaming magnifier.exe to magnifier_disabled.exe in the system32 directory.  In order to rename the file as a normal user, you will need to "Take Ownership" of the file first.  Right-click the file and go to Properties, Security (tab), Advanced (button), Owner (tab), and choose to make yourself owner.  You will then be able to change the file's permission and give yourself full control of the file.  Only after you've done all this, you will be able to rename the file.

    I literally JUST did this, so i don't know if Windows File Protection will automatically revert this file back on it's own...but for now it's working.

    if you have synaptics pointing device you should be able to disable it. You might have alps pointing or even something else which may be why you dont see "device settings" I would check to see what your pointing device is.

    I don't seem to find the "device settings" under the 'mouse properties' in my Control Panel. Are you sure you are talking about Windows 7?
