Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Recently, I have noticed a small caution triangle appearing with my network icon on the task bar. When I right click and troubleshoot, it comes with this message. Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings. My internet has been very slow lately, but I'm wondering if this is a problem with my network? or is this something that my ISP has to fix?

(This post is intended for all reporting the problem)

Check Internet Options (from Control Panel or Internet Explorer Tools / Options  /Connections Tab / LAN Settings and make sure Proxy Server is unchecked even if using Firefox.  Check settings in Firefox in Tools / Options /Advanced Connections / Settings  (should be either use system proxy settings or no proxy).

Check for malware especially using malwarebytes.

Try  these two commands in that order in an elevated command prompt.  Do the first one first then reboot and try.  If still bad try the second.

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ipv4 reset

If these don't help, please post the output of an ipconfig /all command

I had the same problem this morning--couldn't connect on one computer but could on the other.  Got the same message about not being able to detect the proxy settings.  However, I used System Restore to reverse some changes that had happened during the night and that corrected the problem.

    Resolved by uninstalling latest Windows update!!  tried all other ideas on the forum, none worked. A dodgy rogue update happens from time to time (expected as it's windows).  have to remember this as the first thing to check and remove.  would have saved 3 hours of wasted trial and error.

    Some time ago, I mistakenly downloaded Iobit from Advanced Systems.  Immediately after download, I lost my internet connection.  I removed the software from the computer, but my internet connection is still not functioning. I have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point over the internet connection symbol.  "Could not automatically detect network proxy settings" is the message I am receiving when I run the troubleshooting.  I have tried all of the suggestions here without any success.  Restore hangs at initializing.  The network says that I am connected. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Diane - I too saw issues not too long after starting ASC but mine may have been 2 problems.  At first the "netsh winsock reset" command seemed to have worked but then it came back and got worse.  I was also getting the yellow triangle and could not complete a single test on https://speedof.me/ without it failing.  At one point I caught the yellow triangle and ran the Microsoft troubleshooter as it was displayed and it said I had a bad network cable.  I figured no-way but I swapped it out anyway.  Have not had a single yellow triangle since then and speedof.me works every time.  I still get the "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings" error but since it seems to cause no problems so I've just ignored it.  Probably won't help but...
