Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Windows could not automatically detect proxy settings on this computer error.

Hi I had this annoying error after a recent automatic update of windows  I guess; my wifi icon says 'internet access' but I could not connect to internet; 

when trouble shooting the connection, the message is as above. no solutions given in the forum worked for me. The system restore could not be performed as it reported error. 

I tried out following methods, but I am not sure which one worked;

I recommend you just try the step 3 first and disable wifi connection or connection and enable after restart

1. I uninstalled the latest 'windows update' by scrolling down the recently installed updates; (you don't need to uninstall app updates)
2. Also uninstalled my third party antivirus program
3. I unclicked the automatically detect settings in 'Internet Options'
4. Disabled Wifi by physical button in keyboard
5. I restarted the computer and waited it to boot
6. I had team viewer, and on windows start up this program kept asking me to verify proxy settings as it could not connect to internet. I now saw the no proxy option is ticked; but the program recommended to tick  auto detect settings which I did.
7. Finally I switched on the wifi physical button and ta ta da, I am connected to internet

I am leaving the automatically detect settings box unticked for now. I have internet now.
