I FOUND IT!!!

Go to Control Panel
Look up MOUSE
Go to mouse properties
Go to Device Settings
Go to Settings
Uncheck Tapping

This should work for all Windows 7 OS Laptops!

Who is the computer manufacturer?

You may try updating the drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check if you are able to accomplish what you want.

To disable the tapping feature of the touchpad:

1.      Click on Start.

2.      Go to Control Panel.

3.      In the search box, type mouse, and then click Mouse.

4.      Change the settings as per your requirements.

That isn't it. It used to be that I could disable all the stupid functions MS and Apple use. Windows update took that away as far as I can tell. I want it back.

Here's the answer for how to disable the touchpad for a DELL computer using Windows 7. (Dell has customized the touchpad and other system info; they don't provide touchpad access in any other way I've found...) This is especially helpful if you are using an external mouse.

Go to Start, Control Panel.
In "Category" view click on Windows Mobility Center.
At the lower right of that screen find "Touchpad" and click on it.
In the new box click on "Device Select" on the upper left
That brings up a box for disabling the touchpad.
There's also a checkbox for disabling it when an external mouse is used.

I can't believe that ACER doesn't have touchpad drivers for Windows 7. How can that be? Yet they sell their products loaded with Windows 7? Have you tried calling them? How about uninstalling and reinstalling your current driver? Even if it informs you that it is working properly, do it anyway? I know that I had to type in my Gateway laptop model number so they could give the correct driver. I found this website helpful, maybe you will too. Sorry you are having so much trouble. I would contact ACER directly. There has to be a driver out there somewhere and that is your answer

Hmmm...Acer seems to only support the device for it's original configuration (Win XP). Also, they only seem to provide updates, not the complete driver set. I checked notebooks for a Vista driver. They used two different manufacturers for their Vista models. No help there.

Okay, try this

Uninstall any Synaptics or touchpad software using uninstall programs.
Reboot-does Win 7 find new hardware and attempt to install anything?
If NO, Start>Contol Panel>under System Security select find and fix problems>Hardware and Sound>Configure Device Any Luck?
If NO, Start>right click Computer>Manage>Device Manager>and select the touchpad>right-click properties>update driver and let Win 7 look for drivers.

Long shot...hail mary...try the Dell Vista driverhere. It's for Latitude and Precision Vista 32-bit

Searching the net only reveals that Acer provides no support for OS other than how it was sold. There also seemed to be no fixes. I concur with Gaffer, you'll have to try the generic Vista drivers from Synaptics and hope for the best if Win 7 doesn't find a driver that it likes.

The good news is that Win 7 will run on a older hardware, where Vista would not. Keep pushing for a touchpad fix and bring new life to the netbook.

Heres the way I did it on my Dell Inspiron:

Open up start menu, and go to control panel
click on Hardware and Sound, and click on Mouse
Go to "Device Settings" and about halfway down, click on "Settings".
Click on "Tapping" on the left-hand side, and uncheck the box that says "Enable Tapping"

If this doesnt work for you, hopefully there is some similar way for yours. I don't know if this is a brand-specific way of fixing it.

I resolved this issue on my Dell laptop by downloading the Synaptic touchpad driver fromwww.dell.com. Enter your service tag number to find exactly the right drivers in the drivers downloads section.

Hmmm perplexing problem. All the laptops I have access to all have the ability to disable tapping as well as adjusting the tap sensativity.

I think it is a problem where a combination of laptop manufacturer + touchpad manufacturer + driver manufacturer = wierd problems.

some thoughts: uninstall and reinstall driver

verify touchpad driver and touchpad manufacturer match

Try vista driver

Third party software that may change how pointing devices work

bios firmware upgrade to make laptop compatable with win 7 ?

Don't know if any of these apply, but what I would be looking at if the laptop were in front of me.

HI, I had the same problem. Acer thought to include the factory software to turn the double ckick off as well as to turn the touchpad of entirly.

I also took the same typing class, the one that not a single person at Microsoft has ever heard of. "Rest your thumbs below the spacebar after you lightly locate your fingers on the keys." You have to appreicate the type of brillance of a company were I can't use my Works dictonary anyplace except in works. As well as works wont collate a document. Then there's that little thing about templates, "you mean they don't work even I did pay somone more money for them, because Microsoft thinks I want to play with the web, computer and printer all day."

In my case, I'd assume the same is true for everyone with a clerance sale laptop, Vista decide that the product was stolen. This was because noone at the store thought to register it. It being a new laptop, I didnt think to spend money on a server and a phone. After several warnings, it called me a crook and died. I brought it back to the gigantic retail store wher I had bought it. The girl at the customer service desk told me to fix it myself, by calling "?" on the web.   "I CAN'T BECAUSE THE COMPUTER IS BROKEN", was about the last thing I said to her.

So, I called Microsoft and they gave me about the same run around they are giving you. "I can't call the manufacturer, because you are the manufacturer!" doesnt make any sense to them. (You have to appreciate somthing, we all bought a piece of software that was incomplete, doesn't work and they are still fixing it. "Your Honor, can I sell products at full price that are not finishe being designed written or manufactured with a US Buisness license." "NO!, because I'll never keep up with the proublems you would cause.")

So, 28 gigs of ram later, I'm still copying garbage by backing up my computer to it's own drive. Then, I manually go back and delete the old backups, because these software people are smarter than me. Remember, your current disk drive wont work in any new machine, so if anything goes wrong you lost all of your own work. It's probably because Microsoft was hoping to sell you new stuff, "DEAR MICROSOFT, If my time and work is worth less than your product then how am I going to be able to afford to buy your new stuff?".

ACER did give you a clue guys: Go to a store and see if the one on the shelf has that feature. While you at it look at the battery charger settings and low battery warnings. "I supposed to continue a phone converstion with an IT Professional at Microsoft who just told me that the battery settings are interchangable with the CPU operating frequency, while six months of my work is stuck in the machine."

TRY THIS FIX:

THE IT GUY AT MICROSOFT DIDN"T EVEN KNOW THE NAME OF "the touchpad".  THEN PROCESS THROUGH YOUR CPU: WORKS FILES ARE NOT ALWAYS CONVERTABLE AND THE EMOUNT OF TIME IT WOULD TAKE TO TYPE IT ALL INTO A NEW MACHINE.

After two years with an old credit card covering the touchpad, Microsoft finally fixed the touch pad so I can, again, turn it off. (function F7)    Then enter:    GOTU_Staples dot com, they started carrying "trackballs" again.

It should work......................................................and don't forget the new memory stick has to come with compatable drivers.   You know why. (I'm worth below the minimum wage?)
