Canon MP Navigator Stopped working with scanner. Worked under Vista, not Win 7.

Canon scanner Lide 200 worked fine in Vista 64.  I upgraded to Win 7 64 and the interface software stopped working - "MP Navigator EX has stopped working".  It is a BEX error, Fault module MSONSEXT.DLL_unloaded.  I uninstalled, downloaded the newest and reinstalled, same problem.  Canon had me create a new profile, program works in that profile.  Canon says it is a rights or OS issue.

The scanner works with other software.  MP Navigator is a resident program to do copies or copy and email, etc.

Here is the detail from the windows error

I have had the same problem with Win 7 64. I spoke to Canon Tech Support and after an hour during which we tested various things I was told the the problem was with Windows and I should contact Microsoft. I tried creating a new profile which fixed the problem for about a week, then it came back again! The issue may be associated with Windows Update but I am not sure. On this last go around I created a new profile, then copied in the folders and files from the corrupted profile one at a time to see when the problem would start again. After carefully copying files, backing up, testing Mp Navigator, and if necessary restoring the last good setup I discoved that the following file was causing the problem:

C:\Users<user name>\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts\My Web Sites on MSN

Note: This file was not present in my new profile. Also, the icon has the shortcut marker on it, but explorer says it is a folder. There is no file extension.

I eventually copied ALL of the other data from the bad profile to the new one and MP Navigator still worked! I then deleted the offending file from the bad profile and MP Navigator started working there too!

I then reconfigured all of my software and started IE etc. for the first time while watching the Network Shortcuts folder. The offending file has not reappeared yet. I made a shortcut to this location so I can keep an eye on it to see when it appears again.

Hopefully someone at CANON or Microsoft will fix this "corrupted" profile issue.

Sincerely,

David Witteried

Hey GregDaro,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft answers!

The issue could be related to a corrupt user profile, since you’ve stated in your post that the program works fine in the other profile you’ve created.

Refer the link below for more details on fixing a corrupt user profile:

Hope this helps!

    Pfisher,

    There were some posters recently who found a conflicting TWAIN driver. Here is the solution from one of their articles:

    ==============================================

    I also had no entries whatsoever under "C:\Users<user name>\App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts" such as "My Web Sites on MSN". And yes, I did have explorer set to show hidden files. I'm happy that David's solution at least worked for some people.

    So I stumbled upon your comment "Then the guy said go to the TWAIN_32 folder and remove anything that is not a Canon folder or the file wiatwain.ds".

    I tried this and it worked for me.

    Here is what I did:

    Go to "C:\Windows\twain_32"

    Cut and Paste:

    Cut all files except the following: Canon files and folders, wiatwain.ds (In my case I was left with two folders: MX870 series, MX870 series_001E8FEE33BF, and one file: wiatwain.ds)

    Paste all files except the Canon files and folders, wiatwain.ds, into a temporary directory

    Now try MP Navigator. If it works, then it appears that the Canon twain drivers are conflicting with the other drivers in the Twain_32 folder.

    ================================================================================

    Another possible solution is:

    =========================================

    David,

    Like all the others I had the same problem with my MP620: I could print via wireless but not scan in W7 32bit.

    Our XP and Vista computers in the same network can print and scan via wireless.

    I tried everything all of you have advised and nothing helped.

    I then searched the Canon website and found mp620swinns103ea24.exe**(MP Drivers for Network (32bit)) (64 bit is also available.)

    I started this program and now everything runs perfect.

    This exe file is special for the MP620 but maybe also traceble for your printer model.

    Hope you can have profit with this message.

    Rob

    ===================================

    I hope there is something there that helps.

    Sincerely,

    David

    Hello all,

    I thought I would try you guys to get an answer regarding Vista and MP Navigator EX.  Like many people on this site, I get the MP Navigator EX has stopped working message.   Here is my situation:

    I have a Vista Business SP2 computer connected to a CanoScan LiDE 210 and 200 model.  I have had many emails back and forth with Canon tech support regarding this problem.  I tried to scan a document under a teachers account, Run As Administrator, and under my name (Administrator).   None of these worked.  Yes, I had deleted the My Websites on MSN shortcut under my name and teachers name.   Nothing.   Next, I completely uninstalled the Canon software.  I reinstalled it with the newest version.  Nothing.  Next, I tried Windows Photo Gallery to test the scanner out.   The scanner works using WPG.  So, I know the problem has something to do with the Canon software.  This problem happened on a 210 model.  I tried a 200 model.  I got the same problem on both models.

    The last communication with Michael (Tech Rep) was on 12/14/10.   His suggestion was to give him my phone number which he was going to move my case up to a Senior tech guy.  NOTHING!   I never received any phone calls.  I didn't receive any calls even from Michael. Not even any emails.   Here it is 12/23/10, I tried to call the 866-261-9362 number, I get a message around 10.00am saying: "I am sorry Canon is CLOSED".  Closed????  Who closes on pre-Christmas Eve?   Everything is open.   I called 800-828-4040 and spoke to a Supervisor but a Supervisor to Phone support in Virgina.   I awaiting a call from a Supervisor or Tech Rep in the Email support department.   Does anyone know where the Email Support department is located?  State?

    So, can someone tell me directly, to the point, how to fix this problem?  Thanks!

    Fantastic suggestion by p9inkilch! Thank you. Thank you! I have a 5600F and got 'insufficient memory' when I tried running Navigator EX. By removing the Lexmark folder from the C:\Windows\Twain_32 directory it now works fine, so must be a conflict. After reading so many postings and trying so many things it is great to find an answer!
