error WindowsUpdate_80244019" "WindowsUpdate_dt000. Can you help me?

I tracked the whole www :-) and finally found a guy LeerieTheHelp who helped me to get rid of this huge pain! The problem in majority of the cases is related to the wrong DNS loading. The problem itself very often happens when you are behind several routers (like one from internet connection vendor and one your WiFi router). The infrastructure could get into a DNS ____ and until you don't flush your the current DNS configuration you can try anything but you won't be successful. 

What's really funny that's so easy - just run cmd.exe with admin rights, then run “ipconfig /flushdns”, make a coffee and get back to the WU heaven :-D

It's really strange why Microsoft doesn't emmit an official fix for the Windows Update. All other applications are able to deal with that ... From my point of view this is a bug and I am just surprised it's nowhere documented.

If you have already removed the registry keys, good. If you couldn’t find them….good, don’t need em.


If you ran the MalwareBytes scan and found and removed the virus but its still not updating, or you did’t find the virus on your system…good…continue reading please.


**The problem has to do with the DNS setting on your Lan, Wireless lan or router.**


I would clear the DNS cache in command prompt with “**ipconfig /flushdns**”, after that do “**ipconfig /registerdns**”. Do this just to make certain its clean and working. Check it with “**ipconfig /displaydns**” to
 see ur current dns settings.


I found everything was find in the Lan and Wireless IPv4 settings and found my problem on the router of all things.


DON’T PULL THE RICH KID HACK ABOVE YOU DON’T NEED A NEW ROUTER. LOGIN TO IT. Look in the router manual or look online for info and how to login. Usually all u have to do is type 192.168.1.1 in your browser and go to that address. Should ask for login info,
 if u don’t know it…look in the manual or call the company.


REMOVE ANY STATIC DNS SETTINGS IN THERE AS USUALLY U DON’T NEED THEM. UNLESS YOU SET THEM UP AND THEN YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR WORK:)


I found my problem in the router and fixed it no problem. Don’t buy a new one, find out how to reset it or just remove the static dns settings added by the virus. Good luck

Followed all the steps mentioned above however i still end up receiving the error message :

Windows could not search for new updates >> An error occurred while checking fir new updates for your computer. >>

Error found : code 80244019....

Hi caiustitus,

1.       Is this a recent issue?

2.       Do you run Kaspersky Internet Security?

3.       Are you attempting to get updates from within Windows Vista or are you going to the Windows Update website?

4.       Is this happening with a specific update(s), as in, do some updates work?

Some things to try:

Update the Windows Update Agent, and then use the following General Windows Update Troubleshooting steps below.

3.     At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv        net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1.     At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2.     If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

3.     You can manually type each command at the command prompt:

I got the error WindowsUpdate_80244019, I forgot I had turned off MS updates, I turned it back on, ran an update check and viola! No more issues. Just a thought, check your MS Update settings....
