How can I install the windows installer 5.0?

I'm having problems with my widows installer 5.0 also.

Have windows 7 home premium, 64 bit.

I have been trying to solve it for 2 days now. I get the folowing message everytime I try to install the program.

"This installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can access it. Or contact the application vendor toverify that this is a valid windows installation package.

I've contacted the vendor, but have not recieved an answer.

Everything I've done or checked claims my computer does not have a problem.

Would appreciate a reply if anyone has run into this also.

We cannot install Windows Installer 5.0 as it is the default version in Windows 7. If you can provide us more details about the issue, then we can assist you better.

If Windows Installer is malfunctioning, then try to Unregister Windows Installer, and then reregister Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, type cmd, right click cmd and click run as administrator. 

b. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /unreg" and then press ENTER.

c. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /regserver" and then press ENTER.

d. Check the difference.

I tried this and it did not work.

I have seen numerous people with the same exact issue

either we are getting the message that the installer can't be accessed or when we go in and try to start the services for windows installer it tells us error 5 we don't hve access.

I have seen the same steps that you have given in several Microsoft forums for Win 7 and none of the steps work.

I have tried to unregister and register the MSIExec.exe service

I've tried to go in and click on auto,manual, and disable the service reboot and go back in and either it doesn't do anything at all or gives me the error 5 all over again. I tried to rename the file and reboot but I can't rename the file as it says I need permission. I not only have full access to the Windows/system32 folder but i have owner privileges and it still won't let me rename or delete the file. Windows 7 is great but there have been several issues like this with no advertised fix and this one has been going on for 2 years now.... What gives Redmond?

Same issue, the repair on windows 7 says no issue found and won't even try.

It has been doing this since chkdsk stuffed my computer and i had to use a restore point.

I look around for this issue and have seen not one fix that works. no one ever replies thanks that worked, nope not one and have been searching for hours, windows 7 so far is junk i had windows xp stable for a very long time, pity the new computer came with win7.
