Original Title: I have Microsoft Windows 7 though the windows installer is not working correctly. How can I install the windows installer 5.0 or ensure it is working?

  1. What is the issue with Windows Installer?
  2. Do you have any issues installing any program?
  3. Do you get any error message related to Windows Installer?

We cannot install Windows Installer 5.0 as it is the default version in Windows 7. If you can provide us more details about the issue, then we can assist you better.

If Windows Installer is malfunctioning, then try to Unregister Windows Installer, and then reregister Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, type cmd, right click cmd and click run as administrator.

b. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /unreg" and then press ENTER.

c. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /regserver" and then press ENTER.

d. Check the difference.

    I have been having an installer issuer when trying to update java error Microsoft installer error 1601. I tried the above fix using the command prompt as ADMIN. It still says access denied. I looked at the msiexec.exe the only full control access is given to trusted installer. I tried changing to system and administrator. Now I can't get computer back to  accept Trusted Installer as owner anymore. I could really use some help. THANKS SAM

    Sorry to mention I am using windows 8.1.

    seems like Microsoft has left the community  same issue here with the windows installer

    I am trying to update iCloud for Windows. I get the following message: "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I've tried everything I could find in Windows support and nothing works.
