Original Title: I have Microsoft Windows 7 though the windows installer is not working correctly. How can I install the windows installer 5.0 or ensure it is working?

  1. What is the issue with Windows Installer?
  2. Do you have any issues installing any program?
  3. Do you get any error message related to Windows Installer?

We cannot install Windows Installer 5.0 as it is the default version in Windows 7. If you can provide us more details about the issue, then we can assist you better.

If Windows Installer is malfunctioning, then try to Unregister Windows Installer, and then reregister Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, type cmd, right click cmd and click run as administrator.

b. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /unreg" and then press ENTER.

c. On the command prompt, type "msiexec /regserver" and then press ENTER.

d. Check the difference.

    Sorry to mention I am using windows 8.1.

    seems like Microsoft has left the community  same issue here with the windows installer

    I'm having problems with my widows installer 5.0 also.

    Have windows 7 home premium, 64 bit.

    I have been trying to solve it for 2 days now. I get the folowing message everytime I try to install the program.

    "This installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can access it. Or contact the application vendor toverify that this is a valid windows installation package.

    I've contacted the vendor, but have not recieved an answer.

    Everything I've done or checked claims my computer does not have a problem.

    Would appreciate a reply if anyone has run into this also.

    Hi OldDave42's,

    I can see you were having problems with installing the windows installer two years ago. Did you ever get it solved? I am having the same problems and can't find any answers! This has been going on far too long. I know a lot about computers  - but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the Windows Installer has gone, or any help from Microsoft. I doubt if they have a clue!  From reading and researching online, it seems to be a common problem with Windows 7. Guess it is time to go back to a MAC! lol
