iTunes install error: microsoft.vc80.crt,version="8.0.50727.4053"

Hi folks,

I've fixed this issue which occurred on a clean install of Windows 10 (stable - after launch) attempting to install iTunes 12.

I also had an issue with Apple Mobile Support not running. In a nutshell the whole iTunes install process was broken.

I tried many of the proposed fixes (save for the registry edits) but nothing worked.

So I downloaded from Apple an older version of iTunes, version 10, uninstalled the broken version 12, and it worked properly. 

I had to delete iiTunes library.itu (I think that was the file name) from the iTunes directory under /music after it threw the error that that .itu file was created by a newer version of iTunes (version 12). Attempted the version 10 install again and it worked.

After install I then used the Apple updater to upgrade to version 12.

As I find you need to install the security update’ Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update’ before installing iTunes on your computer.

Let’s follow these steps before you proceed with the installation of ITunes.

1. Download and install:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

2. Also, make sure that you have iTunes installer installed on your computer or else download and install it.
3. Uninstall all iTunes software from Program and features.

a)Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and  Features.

b)Select  the program, and then click Uninstall.

Also, download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove all iTunes software:

Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Cleanup"). In the list of programs that appear in Cleanup, select any iTunes entries, and click remove. Quit out of Cleanup.

4.Reinstall all  iTunes software and check if it works.

Try right-clicking on the actual Setup.exe and selecting the "Run As Administrator" option?  Do so even if your user is an Admin.

This example might or might not work for you with your program it uses the built-in Administrator account to perform the install?

"It seems that the "Run as administrator" command only gives you some administrative privileges, and they're not enough to install Java (and OpenOffice, by association). In order to get around this, you need to actually log into the built-in administrator. Open a command prompt with admin rights by clicking start, typing cmd into the search/run box, and hitting CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER. At the prompt, type:

net user administrator /active:yes

Then log out of your regular account and back in as the built-in administrator, where you might be able to install the program. When you're done, log back into your regular account and, for security purposes, disable the built-in administrator account using:

net user administrator /active:no "

If any corruption on your machine is the cause then you may need to consider a complete reinstall of Windows itself.

Using a MS account e.g. ******@domain.com i could NOT install the x64 version of VC2005 (On a clean install of Windows 10)

I needed VS2005x64 for acronis backup (and iTunes needs it aswell....)

Using the commands below before and after installation made all my problems go away...

1. net user administrator /active:yes (CMD screen WITH administrative privileges)
2. login as administator
3. install packages
4. logoff
5. net user administrator /active:no  (CMD screen WITH administrative privileges)
