error 1068 - Windows could not start the Peer Networking Grouping on Local Computer. ALSO, Windows could not start the Peer Name Resolution Protocol Service on Local Computer. Peer Networking Identity Manager IS started. All three are set to "automatic" startup. I have an HTPC and my main system, both running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. The HTPC has all three "Peer" services started but my main PC can only start two of the three services. I have checked and both failed services are logged on to "Local Service"--just as in the HTPC. Both PC's are new builds with very little installed as far as programs are concerned. I have performed a SFC /SCANNOW on my main PC to see if any corrupt files were found--and none were found. So, I am not able to network the two PC's. Other than reinstalling my OS on my main PC, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? By the way, when I try to start the Peer Name Resolution Protocol Service I receive the error: 0x80630801: 0x80630801 . Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to Microsoft answers.

As a work around you may try the following steps and check if that works fine:

Try deleting the file “idstore.sst” under the location: C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking.

    Thanks, this has resolved my homegroup issue.

    I am using windows 7 (SP1 build 7601)

    I am now facing another issue, I have homegroup sharing of my PC and laptop. I can view,change the files from one another i.e. from PC to laptop and Laptop to PC 

    I can see and manage the files & folders (shared one's)  of my PC through my laptop's Window explorer ( in the network drive) , however when I click on "Network"  on window explorer on my PC, error "Window explorer has stopped working and is restarting". subsequently window explorer closes and is restarted.

    I have already run sfc/scannow but no use

    Thank you!! I clicked on the link above and read about the idstore.sst file.  I located the file in C:.windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking.

    Actually, I also deleted another file there called idstore.sst.new.  Once I deleted both files I manually started the pnrp service and whala!!  the other two services I was trying to start automatically started on their own.  

    Yay!  I am very thankful to this post and most of all the original post found at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US.

    Now, I should be able to join my laptop with my homegroup I already had created a few years back with my other all-in-one touch screen pc.  They are both on an in-house wireless network so I had no router issues involved with my problem.  Oh, also my error code was Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. Windows cannot start service.  The error is generic though, so I finally found a topic that related to my problem when I found this one.

    Just logged in to say it worked for me too. Now to see if my 2 comps are speaking to each other again...

    I have to say, I don't understand it, I don't know what idstore.sst is (I zipped & renamed it just in case; see it's now been regenerated along with a file called idstore.sst.new). I don't particularly like it when I don't understand the mechanics, in case I find myself having to take several steps backwards again, so hope this will not be the case here.
