Windows 7 Aero Disabled - How can I enable it again?

I purchased a new HP Envy 15 which had Windows 7 installed in it.  Aero was activated.  A few days later, Aero has been somehow disabled and I can't activate it again.  I used the Troubleshooting utility in Windows 7 for Aero -- it says that nothing is wrong.  I also tried un-checking and checking the various options in the visual effects menu.

Can somebody please help me?  I'm not sure when or how Aero was disabled; the computer did crash and went blank once, and I had to reboot.  I'm not sure if that disabled Aero.

Thanks.

Actually, I just found another thread on the HP website (  http://www.thenextbench.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/seems-that-all-my-Envy-15-problems-are-not-unique/m-p/50174 ) that reveals that the Aero problems on the Envy 15 are a commmon situation.

The suggested solution is uninstalling stardock.

I uninstalled Stardock and my Aero problem was instantlly fixed

. . . and HP tech support wanted me to do a System recovery/system restore--good grief!!

If you are using "LogMeIn", then you sometimes have to disavailable the "LogMeIn screen driver"

    1. Go to "Device Manager" by searching in the startup feild or what ever
    2. Then locate "Video cards" (I think it's called, I'm not from an English speaking land)
    3. Then locate "LogMeIn Mirror Drive"
    4. Right click and press "Deactivate"

Now will the PC restart, and every thing should be all-right :D

Well I've tried all of the solutions in this thread and none have worked. I believe there is a service or program which is causing the problem, but even disabling all non-Microsoft processes on startup, even for other user accounts, does nothing to solve the problem. Troubleshooter identifies no issues.

EDIT: I've created my own thread here - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-desktop/aero-not-working-corrupt-files/66477845-db6e-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

    @CosmicKeys.

I had the same problem: none of the above solutions worked, but I figured it out.

    Try this:

    Start - Run - Services.msc

Double click Desktop Window Manager Session Manager and see if the Startup Type****is set to "Manual". If it is set it to "Automatic" then restart your PC.

If it's still not working right click your desktop, go to Personalise and you should see a "Troubleshooting" option at the bottom of that window. (Troubleshooting actually fixed it for me).

    Hope this helped,

    Flaviu

Just to clear things up there is a fix for this problem. I installed an older game on my windows 7 x64 and it wouldnt load so i went into the games compatibility options and turn off visual themes then tryed the game again. Of course it disabled aero but yet the game did not work. Anyway Aero wouldnt turn back on even with the fix listed below. Changed settings to best performance restarted chaned it back to windows managed and still no luck. Tryed the aero test. Still nothing, until i explored more options after the aero test then selected look for more troubleshooters and found one called display quality and ran it. And it worked it said it found errors in the visual themes.

So just so its clean because i have found nothing on google to help me fix this.
