Windows 7 Aero Disabled - How can I enable it again?

I purchased a new HP Envy 15 which had Windows 7 installed in it.  Aero was activated.  A few days later, Aero has been somehow disabled and I can't activate it again.  I used the Troubleshooting utility in Windows 7 for Aero -- it says that nothing is wrong.  I also tried un-checking and checking the various options in the visual effects menu.  

Can somebody please help me?  I'm not sure when or how Aero was disabled; the computer did crash and went blank once, and I had to reboot.  I'm not sure if that disabled Aero.

Actually, I just found another thread on the HP website (  http://www.thenextbench.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/seems-that-all-my-Envy-15-problems-are-not-unique/m-p/50174 ) that reveals that the Aero problems on the Envy 15 are a commmon situation.

The suggested solution is uninstalling stardock.

I uninstalled Stardock and my Aero problem was instantlly fixed

. . . and HP tech support wanted me to do a System recovery/system restore--good grief!!

    I had the same issue and tried what Renjith suggested but due to our corporate policy we are forbidden to modify the registry. I did inadvertently stumble on a solution that worked for me. I used the Net Stop UVSMS in the command prompt which trigged a prompt at the bottom of the Personalization screen. “Troubleshooting problems with transparency and Aero effect” I clicked on the prompt and clicked next in the Aero troubleshooting assistant and windows resolved the issue for me. I was able to reproduce the problem by entering the Net Stop UVSMS command again and followed my steps to resolve the issue. This may not be the correct way of resolving the issue but it worked for me. I still have not solved the issue why this service stopped but at this point I don’t care. Hope this help.

    This solved my windows aero problem!

    1. Open a program called Services. (click the windows flag in the bottom left corner, then type Services in the search field and open the first program on the list)
    2. Scroll down the list that appears and right click on a field that says "Themes". Click on properties. On the "General tab" you can see an option that says "Startup type". Click on it and choose "Automatic". Then click the button that says "Start". Then hit Apply...... BIG STEP!!! DON'T FORGET TO "APPLY"!!!!
    3. Go back to the big list again and look for a field that says "Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager". Then right-click and choose properties. Then change the "Startup type" to "Automatic" and click the "Start"-button. Then click APPLY!!!

    Don't forget to "Apply" after changing the settings!

    1. You can now close the windows and change your themes, if not you should try restarting your pc. 

    I hope this solved your themes-problem!

    I've seen this before forgot it was there. have tried all the stuff before and nothing worked. but this does! **** just why doesn't windows enable it? **** I'm running two vid cards ...well anyway problems solved and thanks Absorr!!
