Windows 7 Aero Disabled - How can I enable it again?

I purchased a new HP Envy 15 which had Windows 7 installed in it.  Aero was activated.  A few days later, Aero has been somehow disabled and I can't activate it again.  I used the Troubleshooting utility in Windows 7 for Aero -- it says that nothing is wrong.  I also tried un-checking and checking the various options in the visual effects menu.  

Can somebody please help me?  I'm not sure when or how Aero was disabled; the computer did crash and went blank once, and I had to reboot.  I'm not sure if that disabled Aero.

Actually, I just found another thread on the HP website (  http://www.thenextbench.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/seems-that-all-my-Envy-15-problems-are-not-unique/m-p/50174 ) that reveals that the Aero problems on the Envy 15 are a commmon situation.

The suggested solution is uninstalling stardock.

I uninstalled Stardock and my Aero problem was instantlly fixed

. . . and HP tech support wanted me to do a System recovery/system restore--good grief!!

    I tried this on my HP Pavilion DV6 running Win 7.1 Home Premium.  It didn't work unfortunately.  When I go to the desktop-> Personalize -> Select Windows Colors screen it presents a very basic looking dialog unlike examples shown on some pages that address this problem.  Here's an image of it below.  Notice there is no check box to enable transparency.

    I'm wondering why my Windows Colors screen doesn't look  like it should nor have a check box for transparency.  I suspect these might be related.

    All help gratefully received.

    Hi, my desktop width is 3 times 4K, thus 11.520 pixels. This is normally not possible with Aero in Windows 7 due to a limitation in DirectX 10, see here:

    I would be very grateful for a workaround (other than rearrangingthe monitors so that neither the total width, nor the total height, of the extended desktop exceeds 8192 pixels).

    you have to open the cmd with administrative rights

    or else you can right click on cmd and run as administrator

    click on start menu --> typ cmd in search --> right click on cmd ---> Run As Administrator
