Windows 7 Aero Disabled - How can I enable it again?

I purchased a new HP Envy 15 which had Windows 7 installed in it.  Aero was activated.  A few days later, Aero has been somehow disabled and I can't activate it again.  I used the Troubleshooting utility in Windows 7 for Aero -- it says that nothing is wrong.  I also tried un-checking and checking the various options in the visual effects menu.  

Can somebody please help me?  I'm not sure when or how Aero was disabled; the computer did crash and went blank once, and I had to reboot.  I'm not sure if that disabled Aero.

Actually, I just found another thread on the HP website (  http://www.thenextbench.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/seems-that-all-my-Envy-15-problems-are-not-unique/m-p/50174 ) that reveals that the Aero problems on the Envy 15 are a commmon situation.

The suggested solution is uninstalling stardock.

I uninstalled Stardock and my Aero problem was instantlly fixed

. . . and HP tech support wanted me to do a System recovery/system restore--good grief!!

    You may have a program or process running witch need Aero to be disabled. Kill that program, should work.

    I discovered in my case that the issue was with the display settings being set to 16-bit instead of 32-bit. Very simple to change (no registry hacks, etc.):

    Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution\Advanced settings\Monitor > choose 32-bit.

    Here's how I got my aero working again in about 10 seconds after it mysteriously shut itself off.

    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Click on System and Security
    3. Click on System
    4. On the side panel: Click on Advanced System Settings

    This will open a settings window. The first option is Performance. Click on Settings.

    This will open another settings window and you will find yourself on the Visual Effects tab.

    Select Adjust for Best Appearance. (If your computer is set to allow Windows to determine the best visual effect for you, it will turn off Aero if it decides your performance rating is too low.)

    Click Apply or OK.

    You'll have to manually restart now for the changes to take effect.

    Have you determined whether Aero is able to funtion properly under another User Account?

    If you do not have another User Account, create a new one:

    1.     To open User Accounts, click the Start button, click Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety, and then click User Accounts.

    2.     Click Manage another account. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3.     Click Create a new account.

    4.     Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click Create Account.

    If Aero is running properly, it is possible that your User Account Profile is corrupt. 

    Fix a corrupted user profile
