Up until now I am not able to send/receive messages from my windows mail account.  When I went to bed lst night it was fine.  When I hit the send/receive button I get the following "Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail server".  Nothing has been changed since I turned off my pc last night.  Can someone please tell me why this is happening all of the sudden?

I have read similiar posts to my issue, it doesn't seem that the prior posts were any assistance.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

The error code 800ccc90 indicates "IXP_E_POP3_RESPONSE_ERROR" which assentially means that there was a invalid response recieved from the pop3 server. This might be a temporary issue with the mail server. Since the username and password has not changed and no changes had been made on teh client end, it is recommended that you wait for sometime and if the error continues contact the mail server support. Also you may want to check for any other errors reported in eventvwr.

TIP: Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It may be causing the error & provides no
*additional* protection anyway.

The problem is not with the mail server. I have had this problem as well and accessed my mail acount through mozilla thunderbird. Windows mail repeatedly showed this error every time I try to send or recieve mail. I compared the account settings through my mail server directly, with thunderbird, and windows mail. All are exactly the same. This is a registry problem with windows vista, not a mail server problem. Sorry I still haven't been able to fix it, but don't let anyone tell you its your mail server, because its a windows problem, probably caused by a recent update.

This is a registry problem with windows vista, not a mail server problem.

Prove it.   E.g. if the account is  POP3  and not encrypted you could use a

packet tracer such as WireShark (or NetMon) to see exactly what is being

sent and exactly what is being received at that time.   If it is a symptom

that recurs once it happens you wouldn't even have to have such a diagnostic

tool running permanently;  just start it up when you are trying to test your

hypothesis.   BTW you could also try running ProcMon at the same time, e.g.

and perhaps see your account name and password as they are extracted from

the registry but the packet trace is where you would find out whether there

really is an "invalid response received from the pop3 server" (to use

    Gurpreet's words).

    Good luck

I had this same problem and I disabled my Avast mail portion of my anti-virus and voila! Windows Live Mail began communicating properly with my springcom.
