I keep getting an error code when I try to install the latest Security Update for .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2160841)

Remove Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 with the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx ) , reinstall the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 and install the Update.

Before you do this, you can go to "Control Panel" -> "Programs and Features" -> Click to highlight "Microsoft .NET4 Framework 4 Client Profile" -> Click Uninstall/Change -> Choose the option to "Repair Microsoft .NET 4.....' and let it run through the repair. This is usually all that is needed for the Windows updates to stop failing. =)
If that fails, then I would follow Andre's suggestion about using the cleanup tool, but it's generally a lot easier to just repair.
