Windows 7 : Unable to Install Any Programs

Hi - just finished a clean install of Windows 7 this afternoon ( upgrading from XP ). Running a homebuild system : Gigabyte GA-8PENXP Mobo, 2GB RAM, Core2Duo 6600, Nvidia 8800GTS Graphics. Install went cleanly no errors or hiccups. Problem is I can't install anything. Tried to download an install AVG and Avast AV products, both installers failed. iTunes installer just does nothing. However, I have successfully installed Office XP Pro and Stanza eBook reader. Turned off UAC - no difference. Ideas appreciated. It's driving me nuts

I would suggest you to perform a System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer

 Steps to perform SFC scan:

 1. Click the Start button

  1. From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories
  2. In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option
  3. From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the 'Run as administrator' option
  4. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc.
  5. In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter
  6. A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'
  7. Be patient because the scan may take some time
  8. If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue
  9. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"
  10. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Additional information: How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212

 Also try to run program as an administrator.

To do this right click on a program which you are trying to install and click on “Run as an Administrator”.

Also try to run program in compatibility mode and also check whether that program which you are trying to install is compatible with Windows 7 or not.

SOLVED! ~ Well for me

Hi,

I'd been having this same problem with updating windows / vc_red.msi problems & installing programs

tried everything literally been goggling for days thought it was a corrupt registry / then maybe some anti-virus programs finally found this forum

Followed the recommendations & my computer is back working perfectly, can install & update like normal.

    but i can't run prompt as admin..... 

    i creat one set from shortcut as shown in image...then

    and tick it run as admin..

    but when i click on that the blue round are continuously rounding......

    and  furrther no process are done... blue round it continous..

    please help me

    OK I have the same problem only I can download and save to download. However, when I try to install the programs nothing happens at all. No error messages, nothing. I am not able to get Windows Update to work at all and none of my programs have the Run as admin command option anymore.

    Ran sfc/scannow under command prompt w/o admin mode and came up empty.

    Ran chkdsk on command prompt- same results, all A-OK

    Ran MS Security Essentials- Clean

    Ran Glary Utilities 5- clean bill of health

    Ran Malwarebytes and this time I excluded everything. Last time I quarantined/deleted everything MW found and had a devil of a time getting it all back!

    This is help forum 19 for me for this same set of problems.

    I tried System Restore- no dice. Still can't install programs. Still can't run Windows Update. Still no Run as admin command options anywhere on Windows 7 OS for ANY programs.

    Used everything in Repair my Computer page except reinstall/reset options because these are NOT options for me. I have 40 years of data in Henrietta including data from five previous PC's.

    I do online survey work and web ad surfs for a living from home PC so I must accept all cookies and pop-ups as well as online ads.

    I use foreign websites for anime pix, music, videos, data because I post an online weekly Anime & More newsletter. I do not use pornographic or sexual type websites at all!

    I am at my wit's end because w/o my web world, I have nothing. No family that cares about me, no real friends, online friends who ignore me, no real reason to go on living. Please help me.

    HP Pavilion p6330f Home Premium Windows 7 desktop PC

    Default is Firefox 29. I also use Opera 21, IE9 (for repairs at Comcast, MS, Yahoo, Google, MSN etc. only. I hate this browser), Chrome (Been Aw Shucksed too many times here) and Maxthon 4 cloud browser. Used to use Safari and a few others but stopped when they caused crashes.

    Oh yeah and since I cannot install anything, RKill, minitoolbox, MS FixIt and KB 947821 (x64) cannot be installed either and all have been recommended to me to fix this mess.

    Thanks I hope but so far nobody has given me anything constructive in way of answers. One guy kept telling me to use the Run as admin command option AFTER I had patiently explained to him that I no longer had the command option on my PC! Later- keimanzero

    I have problems with installing software on my computer (even if it was recently re-installed) I am trying to install firefox but the installer just shuts down after a second. I ran the sfc and got this result: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

    How do I proceed now?
