**Looks like there are some useful steps here but this link takes you directly to the site to install the driver for all the XBOX Accessories for XP and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bi)t. You want to choose "**Xbox
360 Accessories Software 1.2" and there is a drop down window to pick your operating system. The other steps on here didn't allows the Wireless Receiver to install for me so I searched and searched and found this. Hope it helps. Don't let the description of
the link fool you. Microsoft has it labeled odd making it hard to find. this is what you want, promise.

The above works for the cheapo knockoff receiver!!!!!!!
I just got the cheapo knock off model from amazon (the black one) and did the cyberfox steps, and the receiver quit blinking and turned solid green, but the controller just kept blinking and blinking...
After installing the above exe file from microsoft, i went back to check the driver and all the sudden (after choosing install from a list again) found FOUR choices, one of them being "Xbox 360 controller for Windows" 2.1.0.1349 - when I specified this,
the controller isntantly connected and worked!!
This is different than the "common controller" (version 6.1. something) one that was available with the system (brand new alienware windows 7 home premium 2 days old)
If you can't get your controller to connect to the cheapo receiver (receiver stops blinking - controller doesn't) the bottom line - make sure you use the "Xbox 360 controller for windows" driver that becomes available after installing the exe at the link
above and NOT the "common controller" one already on your system.
Cheapo receiver works!!!
