Windows Update Error Code 8024A000

Hi,

 When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000.

Not to able get wats the reason

Help me out

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2.     If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3.     At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv         net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1.     At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

2.     ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old

3.     ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2.     If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

            -or-

3.     You can manually type each command at the command prompt:

 Restarting services pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

exit

4.     Now please check for updates using Windows Update to see if the issue has been resolved.

    Thank you Marilyn!

    I don't understand why my newly installed Windows wouldn't work on my new HD. I had never had a problem before. But after following your steps, I was able to update most things, except Java. But I'm not too worried about that. Now it's just going to take quite a while to do all these updates :)

    I've tried everystep, but it didn't work. My version is bit 32 and language dutch. is there an other way te solve the problem?

    I tried the above steps but am still getting Error Code 8024A000. I have also tried manually downloading the latest Windows Update Agent, but it wouldn't install. Is there something else I can try?

    Hi Marilyn,

    I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for your very detailed response to EC 8024A000.  I had no idea that my Windows updates weren't being installed automatically.  I had the auto-update scheduled for 3:00 AM and had mistakenly assumed that they were being dutifully installed every night.  It wasn't until a Dell PC Checkup tool informed me that the last update was quite some time ago and then I began to investigate the issue.  Your provided instructions worked perfectly and I'm back in business.  Thanks again.
