Hi,

When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000.

Not to able get wats the reason

Help me out

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2. If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3. At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

2. ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old

3. ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4. Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1. Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2. If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

A replaced my HDD with a new one Seagate 750 GB and I got the same message. But after I installed new Rapid Storage Technology Driver windows update began to work.

Is this after doing all the things you report in your previous, or is it only after doing the factory CD reload ?

What is this Driver ?

Is this driver for *that* hard drive?

Yes. I think I tried everything you mention, some 3-4 times and several things I'm sure I've forgotten. I even downloaded SP2 alone and it wouldn't install with yet another error code.

I have effectively given up and am currently limping along on SP1 (and some other unsafe setups) as it came from the reinstall CD. It appears that uninstalling the extras is something that the systen doesn't do correctly. I even used Norton Uninstall to get rid of the Norton360.

The alternative is to pay (UGH!) Geek Squad something around $300 to have them get it running [and get me back to what I originally paid for - a functioning Vista system without any extra junk installed].

When I bought this machine I tried uninstalling all the extra junk they had on it and wound up with the blue screen, so I got Toshiba to have Geek Squad fix it under warrantee and demanded they send the required reinstall CD free. I wasn't standing for a computer sale with no full system reinstall capability (or so I thought at the time) . Geek squad did the reinstall and removed all the extras (I thought the CD came without the junk because the Geek didn't say anything about removing it - he knew I didn't want it cuz' I was vocal about all the unpublicized junk I had after turning it on) and it was absolutely flawless until I literally dropped the laptop and don't want to trust the original HD.

Because I replaced with a same size HD and my original system (HD) still functions, I'm considering doing an Actual Full Backup (the Vista Home Premium "full backup" isn't) from the original HD using Acronis (before it actually dies. It works fin as an external USB)). [http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/] I understand even the free, limited-time trial version allows making a true, as it never happened, *full* disk image on CD that can be used any time later.

I may try one more RE-install from the (Toshiba) reinstall CD. I am considering doing the factory re-install one more time *then* immediately trying to do the system updates. If that doesn't work, I'm off to a long time family friend-system admin and he says I should go to Sys7, but it raises the hair on the back of my neck to have to pay just to get back to what I already paid for.

These systems try to be everything to everybody whether they need it or not and are far too complex for the home, I'm not on a big system, nor an admin, user.

Sorry if this doesn't help you, but a little catharsis helps me…

Is anyone else still having problems with Vista and Windows Update and error 8024A000??

I've noticed that there is a recurring theme here!! As I've also got the same problem with a Toshiba Laptop I'm repairing for a mate!! I've replaced the Hard Drive (as the old one was fried!) with a new bigger one! and then use the Toshiba Recovery DVD (which I had to buy for £30!!!!) to install Vista Home Preimum SP1, All Ok until I attempted to Update using Windows Update so that I could get IE9! and got error 8024A000. Having tried the recommended solutions:

Stopping and starting BITS and WU services and renaming SoftwareDistribution and CATROOTS folders and re-registering all those DLLs!!

Nothing worked! I also tried to directly update the Windows Update Agent (failed), Windows FixIt failed to install and I even installed a fresh version of Vista Business (as I had a spare copy) and still the same problem; Windows Update error 8024A000!

At the end of my tether!! I stumbled across a solution regarding the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver!! Apparently it's needs to be updated to take account of the larger HDD; I'm currently running version 9.5.6.1002 and that solved my Windows Update issues!!

Of course this will only work for those with Intel Hardware!! But it maybe another avenue for people to consider.
