Windows Update Error Code 8024A000

Hi,

 When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000.

Not to able get wats the reason

Help me out

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2.     If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3.     At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv         net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1.     At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

2.     ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old

3.     ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2.     If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

            -or-

3.     You can manually type each command at the command prompt:

4.     Now please check for updates using Windows Update to see if the issue has been resolved.

    Is this fix missing some steps - like actually running the windowsupdate.bat file? Where to save it if it auto runs?

    I will run it from the command prompt window left open in the first part, not sure if a reboot is required between steps or not?

    Good info, but some steps missed which will not assist average or lesser users of windows.

    I used the third one STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe

    Finally!  After something like seven months limping along on SP1. IE7 and 8-9 attempts at reloading from the out-of-the-box-new restore Media from Toshiba, this did it for me, TOO !!  Thanks for this solution.

    It'd be nice if someone would condense all the fixes in this thread into one and add the suggestion that when changing hard drives, try ther driver first.

     

    Background:

      My Toshiba Satellite crashed in Feb 2012.  Not the hard drive, but the lapTop 3 feet off the kitchen counter BAMB! Foot caught on the power cord.  It hit pretty flat and closed upon impact, so I chewed on my heart for a minute, I opened it and believe it or not, NO damage.  I wasn't going to trust the hard drive after this and installed a new IDENTICAL sized drive and the AU error ocurred.   I tried all the above fixes as well as some others - too many to recall them all.  I limped along on SP1 and IE 7. 

      A friend has a legal copy of Win7 for me, but I decided to try once more to try one last factory restore, then immediately do updates before removing any of the factory junk apps. I got an email of that last post here and decided to try the driver.

    WOW! worked like a charm!  Somethoing like 150 updates in all and now I'm back to IE8 (IE9 wouldn't install - later perhaps).

    Here's the solution. I had to replace a failed hard drive in a Vista laptop. The original drive was a 320GB and I replaced it with a 500GB. I used my original recovery DVD and here is the problem. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. It has to be updated because of the larger drive.

    This fixed the problem of not being able to run Windows Update and getting the error: 8024A000
