Windows Update Error Code 8024A000

Hi,

 When i try to take the updates, its throwing the error 8024A000.

Not to able get wats the reason

Help me out

The Windows Update Error Code 8024A000 means WU E AU NOSERVICE. This is translated as AU was unable to service incoming AU calls.

I would like for you to perform general Troubleshooting steps for Windows Update.

General Windows Update Troubleshooting

The following outlines how to stop services pertaining to Windows Update, rename system folders, register related DLL files, and then restart the previously mentioned services. This troubleshooting generally applies to all Windows Update related issues.

Stopping services pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2.     If you receive a notification from User Account Control simply click Continue.

3.     At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

net stop wuauserv         net stop bits

net stop cryptsvc

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Renaming folders pertaining to Windows Update

1.     At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

2.     ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old

3.     ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4.     Please do not close the Command Prompt window.

Registering DLL’s pertaining to Windows Update

1.     Please copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT

2.     If saved correctly the icon will change from a Notepad file to BAT file which has two blue cogs as its icon.

            -or-

3.     You can manually type each command at the command prompt:

net start wuauserv         net start bits

net start cryptsvc

exit

4.     Now please check for updates using Windows Update to see if the issue has been resolved.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I am sorry for late response.

    You may use the steps provided in my response on August 2, 2014 at any time. It only changes Windows update files and it is not saved in any specific location in Windows.

    You may use the steps and check the issue.

    You may also refer to suggestions from Sharath Srinivasa replied on December 10, 2013 and check.

    One addition thing to try might be upgrading the Agent.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104 for getting access to the latest agent.

    Backstory:  I have a new Gateway NE56R which shipped with Windows 8 in late 2013.  I attempted  UNSUCESSFULLY to upgrade to 8.1 due to '0x80070004' installation errors. Prior to this 8.1 attempt, I was receiving updates. So, out of frustration and lack of a technical fix, I let the machine sit.  Now with the upcoming Windows 10 free upgrade on the horizon, I NEED to install Windows 8.1 to comply.  But first I need to get ALL the updates I've missed installed to this laptop, and upgrade to 8.1 from the Windows Store.

    As a result of the original 'Marilyn' post,  I've received the following errors '8007371C' and '800703F1'.  I, as well as others didn't know to double-click the batch file for the parameters to run.  After running the batch file, after running the procedure, I received these errors.  Looking at the Windows Update log it states the 'Windows Update Agent' 7.8.9200.1694 failed. This happened twice for the 2 errors I've mentioned.

    Using your expertise, I'd like to start the procedure over from scratch.  It appears your information is the most current and you have a different spin on the problem resolution.  Based on your conversation with Marilyn, should I now run the procedure you stated to her since her laptop is running 8.1?

    Also please give further insight on when this batch file needs to run, what location it should be saved (desktop), and what file extension it should have.  Let me know if you need clarification on anything I've mentioned.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!
