I've concluded that it's not that Microsoft Can't make the chatpad work within Windows, but rather Microsoft doesn't want to make it work, and is refusing to tell us why.

I think it is more along the lines of:

The XBOX360 software/hardware development group developed this product and are not involved in making drivers for Windows.

the Windows PC software development group does not even have this device on their radar screen and don't care.

It's kind of like the left hand is unaware that the right hand exists.

The users and third party developers are stuck in the middle with some great ideas for the use of this product trying to figure out how to make the two groups aware of each other and themselvs.

    Dear Microsoft,

You really, really need to make drivers for the chat pad as part of the xbox360 game pad for windows driver. The chat pad should work as a ps2 keyboard. This is the cry of hundreds of thousands loyal microsoft and windows users that enjoy pc gaming and htpc's.  You have a choice piece of hardware here, it would be a disservice to yourselves and your customers to not add windows functionality.

I really wish that Microsoft would release the PC drivers for the Chat pad, at least just for the corded controller, I would pay $20 for it.  There is no logical reason for keeping this driver from coming out, I wish that someone would leak it from MS, I bet a couple of their Programmers made some just for fun.
