Hi rafcaf75,

  1. Did you try to install the game? If yes, what was the result?

We did check for the compatibility of the game Risk II with Windows 7 and found no information. This means that the game may or may not be compatible with Windows 7.

See Risk II compatibility

Step 1: We recommend you install the game in either Windows XP or Vista compatibility mode and check the difference.

To do this, see Make older programs run in this version of Windows

Step 2: If nothing works, then you may install the game in Windows XP mode

a. Download and install Windows XP mode.

b. Click Start, click All Programs, and click Windows XP Mode.

c. Open the game setup file and install it.

d. Launch the game and play it.

I had this game (Risk II) running / working on both my Win7-64bit machines, but just a short while ago the game stopped working on both machines. Why .. I don't know? I've been trying to figure that out, but so far - no joy. One machine is a Lenovo-G560 running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium / sp1. Intel Pentium dual-core P6100 (2.00GHz) 4GB ram, 320gb hdd, Intel HD Graphics, Realtek onboard .. everything uptodate. The other machine is a Desktop (ma785gt-ud3h) with Win7 64bit Pro. AMD Ath-II X4 635 Processor, 4gb ram, onboard video - ati-radeon hd 4200, onboard sound - realtek. I haven't made any serious changes to either machine. They both have the latest drivers and MS updates.

I've tried every setting that one can change in compatibility modes and changed video resolution to 800x600 and all that .. still the same thing happens. The game begins to start and then quits. I've tried running the game directly and from a modified shortcut (-noavi) and nothing works.

Perhaps an old machine setup to boot win95 & 98 is in order? Might just as well go with all 3 and add DOS. Three partitions and a multi-boot loader maybe?  I don't know. A Virtual Machine setup might work, but not if one needs to be running just certain versions of windows and all that. What might even be better, would be booting from a USB stick with all the old games pre-installed on the stick. Trouble is, I haven't heard to much about successful 95 & 98 Live CDs.

If you haven't played this game, you don't understand ;)

I stumbled across a solution to this. Try plugging in a secondary display to your laptop. eg a TV using HDMI or VGA cable. Think this must force the graphics card into a mode that RISK can cope with. Secondary advantage of this is you can watch your game on a big screen! From my experience, the TV didn't even need to be turned on to make this work.

Worked for me (had screen freeze problems)

I Downloaded 4 programs to fix the problems, and needed the risk installer. Below the programs are the installation steps.

    Program 1: Virtual PC 2007 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=4580)

Program 2: Windows XP installer, and use your own cd key to activate (http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/get/microsoft\_windows\_xp\_mode,1.html)

Program 3: OR download MagicISO (http://magiciso.com), or use some other iso making program.

    Program 4: RISK 2 installer

Program 5: If you want warzone, download also the warzone installer (http://www.ewarzone.com/downloads/WarZoneInstall.exe)

Step 1: After installing program 1,2, and3, go to the folder where you have program 2 installed. The file Windows XP Mode base.vhd. It is marked as read-only (right mouse on file, then properties). Unmark read-only.

Step 2: Open MagicISO. Use the program to create an iso file.

This ISO file should contain the risk2 installer, and the warzone installer (if you want warzone ofcourse).

Step 3: Run Virtual PC 2007, to create a new virtual pc. When askes for operation system, select winXP. Use recommered RAM.

Select that you want to use an existing virtual hard disk. Choose to use the file installed from program 2: Windows XP Mode base.vhd. Press finish.

Step 4: Start the created virtual machine, and install windows XP.

Step 5: When in Windows XP in the virtual machine, select pulldown-menu CD (middle, top of screen). Then select Capture ISO image. Select the ISO file, created in step 2.

The virtual machine will mount the CD in the D: drive (probably).

Step 6: Install Risk 2, (and warzone).

This worked for me, with Windows7 Ultimate SP1, 64bit.

Hope it will also work for some others.

    Greetings
