Attached network drive does not remember credentials so have to log in every time I boot up the machine even when I click the button to remember details.

Using windows 7 I have a NAS drive that I need to manually log into everytime my machine us started up - I want it to remember the login details and do it automatically when the machine starts as my wife also uses it and I want the auto backup to run.

Use credential manager in Windows 7 to remember the username and password for your NAS Drive if it doesnt remember it automatically.

Go to Start / Control Panel / User Accounts and Family Safety / Credential Manager

On the right hand side, right below where it says "Windows Credentials" Select "Add a Windows Credential".

Enter your NAS' Server name in the first box.

User Name in the second box and your password for the server in the third box.

I would suggest you to check the options in settings.

If it is a mapped network drive, Please follow the steps below:

1.      Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.

2.      Click Map network drive.

3.      In the Drive list, click a drive letter.

You can choose any available letter.

4.      In the Folder box, type the path of the folder or computer, or click Browse to find the folder or computer.

To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the Reconnect at logon check box.

5.      Click Finish.

Your computer is now connected, or mapped, to the network drive.

    Here's what I did for Windows 7, and it doesn't require a batch file.

    Background information:

    Network device has the name Diskstation1

    target folder is \Diskstation1\kindra

    username and password are kindra  (hyper secure right?)

    Map the drive, set it to reconnect at log in, none of the credential stuff matters.

    1. click the start button.
    2. type "Credential Manager" into the quick search bar.
    3. when "Manage Windows Credentials" or "Credential Manager" come up... select either one.
    4. you'll see a window that says "Store credentials for automatic logon" at the top.
    5. you will also see three sections below:

    Windows Credentials  (Add a Windows credential)Certificate Based Credentials (Add a certificate-based credential)Generic Credentials (Add a generic credential) 6. Click "Add a Windows credential" 7. You will see a new dialog that pops up where you are asked for Internet or network address,user name and password. 8. using my background information above i entered the following:

    Internet or Network address: diskstation1

    user name: kindra

    password: kindra 9. click ok. 10. restart.

    drive mapped successfully.

    Hi

    I have just found the following by mistake!

    I'm on Windows 7 Professional x64.

    1  Create a new Windows Credential with:

                Username:  Admin or Administrator

                Password:  anypass

        This creates the credential with 'Persistance' set to 'Enterprise'/

        If you use any other user name the Persistance is set to: 'Session'

    2   After creating the Credential above edit the user name and password to the

         correct values you need.

    Now when you map a drive to use this credential it remembers the password after logging out and reboot!

    Question for MS:  Why not make the persistance parameter editable by admin users? It would actually be usefull

                              unlike all the dozens of other time you ask for admin rights to do something!

    Vista and 7: The option is also inside control panel's user section but it's now called "Credential Manager". Add a "Windows credential". Important note: Disconnect and remap whatever mapped drive you have made. When you re-map do NOT click the "use different username" link, simply press "Finish"

    This worked perfect for me (on Windows 7). I just went to:

    * ControlPanel -> User Accounts & Family Safety -> Cradential Manager

    * Add a Window Cradential

    I then entered the details, clicked OK and was able to browse the network drive without, without needing to disconnect it first.
