Using windows 7 I have a NAS drive that I need to manually log into everytime my machine us started up - I want it to remember the login details and do it automatically when the machine starts as my wife also uses it and I want the auto backup to run.

Use credential manager in Windows 7 to remember the username and password for your NAS Drive if it doesnt remember it automatically.
Go to Start / Control Panel / User Accounts and Family Safety / Credential Manager
On the right hand side, right below where it says "Windows Credentials" Select "Add a Windows Credential".
Enter your NAS' Server name in the first box.
User Name in the second box and your password for the server in the third box.

I would suggest you to check the options in settings.
If it is a mapped network drive, Please follow the steps below:
1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
2. Click Map network drive.
3. In the Drive list, click a drive letter.
You can choose any available letter.
4. In the Folder box, type the path of the folder or computer, or click Browse to find the folder or computer.
To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the Reconnect at logon check box.
5. Click Finish.
Your computer is now connected, or mapped, to the network drive.

As the poster just above (swordsandplows) I too was having problems logging to a Synology NAS. After reading all the comments I tried the map network drive and setting the credentials in credential manager (windows 7) but it was still failing. After re-checking everything, I noticed that the name of my user on my NAS had a the first letter capitalised, which is why the logging was failing.
I just thought I'd mention it in case someone else runs into this issue.
I struggled with the problem too -- and found a working solution in the Microsoft Knowedge Base. An issue that is affecting many of the people in this forum is the the WebDAV drive they are mapping is on a remote server (the server is not on their local network). Windows Vista/7 refuses to send the saved password for remote WebDAV shares. You can, however, modify the registry to allow it to send the password for specific sites.

it worked for me.
i opened credential manager/ manage creditentials
entered the following to both "generic credentials" and windows logon credentials
the top one and the bottom one on the page.
server (as location or networkdrive)
administrator
mypassword
then i tried to open the network drive, it asked me the creditentials again , i ticked remember credentials on, and restarted to test it.
it did not remember my creditentals untill i added them as generic creditentials...
so my point is
use generic credentials and it will use it for network logon.
