Office icons dissapear in Windows 7

why do my Office 07 icons keep disappearing in windows 7?

This has happened to me as well and was corrected by viewing the properties from the desktop folder. Once I clicked on the change icon button and canceled the action all the icons for the Office 2007 programs and files were restored, including the taskbar pins.

Reinstalling the programs would not fix the problem from happening again IMO, and not an appropriate solution.

Icons will not display if this folder is missing:

C:\Windows\Installer{90120000-0012-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

(or wherever you have installed windows)

It contains the icon files.

Copy the folder from another machine and you will be instantly remediated!(at leas I did)

{90120000-0012-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} is missing, but what if I don't have another machine to copy from?

I had this problem with missing icons for months on a Windows 7 machine. Finally decided to research it and found this thread. Very helpful.

My fix was to run C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\OFFDIAG.EXE as found here. Went through many diagnostic routines. Once done all icons appeared correctly. Interesting how the correct icons helps navigation.

worked perfectly! thanks! I used Windows 7 and it worked great. Make sure if you try this that you are aware of the spaces in the bold print. They are subtle but they are they and if you don't have those spaces, the solution won't work.
