why do my Office 07 icons keep disappearing in windows 7?

This has happened to me as well and was corrected by viewing the properties from the desktop folder. Once I clicked on the change icon button and canceled the action all the icons for the Office 2007 programs and files were restored, including the taskbar pins.
Reinstalling the programs would not fix the problem from happening again IMO, and not an appropriate solution.

Avast boot time virus scan has been run with no viruses found. The icons dissappear from the desktop and from the start menu.
More information would be helpful.
Are they disappearing after a reboot?
Are these the actual Office shortcut icons?

I upgraded from Vista and so far all of my Office 2007 icons are still on the desktop.
They are all there....
Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Access, OneNote, Project, Visio, Groove, InfoPath.
I do not know exactly when they dissappeared, but they do not come back after a reboot. The generic icon is in their place. Yes these are the actual Office shortuct icons.
What additional information would you like me to provide? I try to put the original icon back but the change icon button is greyed out.
