Can you help trouble shoot Sharper Image Internet Weather Station EC-WS115?

I got this as a gift. It came without a software disk. After emailing customer support I got a link to the the following software:

http://www.box.net/shared/static/6o8ihesobp.exe

I downloaded this software.  It brings up the software images on my screen ... I can enter my home location in the software ... but the software never connects to the internet ... so I star all over again.  The installation and troubleshooting guide for this software can be found at:

This gadget is supposedly compatible with Windows 7.  I am running Windows 7 Pro on my HP Computer.

This is to one and all.

Since my suspicion as I indicated was it was the server not the WS software and since the WS is powered by Foreca a Swedish company I contacted them yesterday. This morning in my inbox (see below) I found the following information they sent. Let's see if by tomorrow things look better. I do believe this loss of has happened in the past. Thanks to all who took interest in this matter especially henkilökohtaista sääpalvelua the Forecan Meteorologi whoever he/she is, Jaoanna and Steven for his clever approach to the problem.

Since I was a mainframe computer programmer since 1960, think early missile systems Redstone etc and stuck with mainframes till I retired in 2005 my experience with PC software development is much less intense.

    From Foreca

    "Hello!

Thank you for your interest. We received the following information from the device manufacturer:

"Our interent weather data server has to be shut down tonight for transfer to a new location.  If everything smooth, the server can operate again on 1 June evening."

    Best regards,

    Joanna

    Hi All,

I called SI (888.856.6781) this morning and their support person confirmed ept8202's info from FORECA.

Apparently, FORECA is doing maintenance on their servers and the service is expected to resume in 24-48 hours.

This applies to those experiencing the incorrect date/time issue with no weather info downloaded.

If you are looking for the software it can be found here: http://www.sharperimageparts.com/software-downloads/

It is a rar file so you will need something other than Win Explorer to unpack it. Recommend 7-Zip.

Thanks marathonJay and ept8202 for sharing your info. Let's hope this will in fact solve the problems.

I still have my doubts though, as the data that I saw coming from the server appears to me an epoch value that seems to me a legit date/time.... well, time will tell! :-)

    Hi Stefan:

Sorry for my misspelling of your name in a previous email.  I agree your epoch was valid as I tried it in a converter.  and it came up 11/2.  Interestingly the date and time is not remaining constant, right now the WS shows 11/3 at 1:27 pm which means it is being updated somewhere.  I can't see how the WS could do that after a shutdown of the PC that seems to indicate it's the server sending bad data but how if the server is shut down?  I'll see if the issue clears up by Monday, if not I'll experiment with your solution.

Never mind the name, "ept". Being a Dutchman living in Canada, I've heard and seen about every possible rendition of my name... :-)

But now the confusion gets bigger every day... the string I see coming in from the server now is "13385930 1338593037 23:23:57 Jun-01-2012", and when I check this epoch "1338593037" on for example http://www.esqsoft.com/javascript_examples/date-to-epoch.htm it shows as June 1st. Did you find another epoch converter that has the same outcome as what the WS application shows?
