If you are running AVG antivirus, it stops the complete install of the software on your PC. I disabled AVG for 10 minutes, reinstalled (repaired) the software installation by running the install again and I was able to save my location finally.
Can you help trouble shoot Sharper Image Internet Weather Station EC-WS115?
I got this as a gift. It came without a software disk. After emailing customer support I got a link to the the following software:
http://www.box.net/shared/static/6o8ihesobp.exe
I downloaded this software. It brings up the software images on my screen ... I can enter my home location in the software ... but the software never connects to the internet ... so I star all over again. The installation and troubleshooting guide for this software can be found at:
This gadget is supposedly compatible with Windows 7. I am running Windows 7 Pro on my HP Computer.

2010-12-30T00:30:10+00:00 After messing with this for over an hour, I now remember how poorly written this software is... When launching the program from the disc, it downloads the real program fromwww.box.net. At this point it stores two files in c:\programdata\5-day forecast: setup.exe and setup.msi. What does setup.exe do... it launches setup.msi. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. If you try to install the program in the 64bit program files instead of the 32bit program files (x86), the program installs it into the 32bit path anyways.
I have installed it many different ways, even launching via a command promt running as admin through this command: msiexec /i "C:\ProgramData\5-Day Forecast\setup.msi". The only thing that I haven't done is run it with UAC turned off.
Another thing to note that when you click the button to 'update forecast' it makes two web calls to:
058177242057.ctinets.com
ip-97-74-198-142.ip.secureserver.net
My version is 1.01.

2010-12-30T00:24:25+00:00 I got one for x mas and had the same issue the first time out....seemed like nothing was working and after about 30 mins, got disgusted and disconnected everything. Then, when I discovered that I could not return it, I decided to give it another try! This time, I did everything according to the manual/installation cd as I did before, and waited about an hour this time (I am generally not very patient, but, had some time to spare this week) - and voila - it worked!!! Everything works as it should and I am very satisfied with the gift (no paperweight here)!!

2010-12-29T21:08:19+00:00 As an addendum to the above, the RF receiving indicator on the main unit stops flashing after the very first update is completed on the main unit (30-45 minutes). Also updating the forecast manually takes about 10 minutes to show the update on the main unit. (Note: The RF receiving indicator stops flashing after the first update and doesn't flash again even if you turn off your computer and then turn it on again hours later.) I haven't had an issue with the main unit not receiving the USB RF transmitter signal and the main unit is in my living room about 25 feet away.
After you do the setup (and location) and save, does the city, time, date come up immediately on the main scree? Perhaps I'm not waiting long enough for it to do it's thing?
