Seriously!?!?!?!? You can't change the background wallpaper on Windows 7 starter!? Of course I understand that this version of Windows is meant to be very light on features for running smoothly on netbooks...but F-ing wallpapers? Microsoft does remember that they are still writing computer operating systems right? My dinosaur, Nokia cell phone from like 5 years ago let you change the wallpapers.  They left the gadget feature but not wallpaper!?!? This really proves to me that Microsoft has absolutely no clue what they are doing.  Windows 7 comes on just about every netbook now as of this current holiday season.  So here is my question...Why would anyone want a windows 7 netbook when XP (the operating system before the one before windows 7) had more features than it does? Apple is looking better and better. I didn't even get a netbook for christmas, and even though I really wanted one, i'm very glad I didn't. I'm not going to get one at all now if its got windows 7 on it.  I'll wait for that Apple tablet and that's it.  What do you say Microsoft?

Hello socratesman,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

In Windows 7 Starter you are not allowed to change the desktop background. You cannot even replace the default image with another one because the system compares the file hash of your desired background with the file hash of the default wallpaper.

You have to upgrade to a more complete version of Windows 7:

    seriously??, I did this previous steps and now all I get is a black screen of death.

    how can I go back without doing a lot of steps?? can I get the path of the picture that windows 7 starter normally has when you do step 3

    PLEASE I NEED HELP

    I dont want to change the wallpaper anymore I just wanted back as it was before

    dear microsoft,

    could you please screw your heads on and stop copying apple with your microsoft stores and PLEASE just give us windows 7 starter users SOME more features in updates because its gonna come to the point where apple will make you bankrupt.

    Now, being a microsoft user because i cant afford a mac, thanks for actually making computers that are cheap

    ive had my netbook for 8months now and im just now realizing it. no im actually very computer savvy but i always just right clicked, didnt see propertys so i just thot "ill figure it out later" but tonight ive been going thru and cleaning up the netbook an finally realize there actually is no way to do it and...im really mad, i mean for christ sake not only do i feel like a moron now for somehow letting this escape my attention even tho i rarely use my netbook but...i payed 250$ for something thats costed you guys 0.35$ to make in china and i cant even have the simple luxery of personalizing my netbook?. i understand its the start version but i cant think of any reason a decision like "no wallpapers" would be made unless it somehow benifits microsoft money wise or you just wanted to make people mad...option A seems more likly and im extremely dissapointed that microsoft would stoop to such levels. just because the principile this is based on im tempted to leave microsoft products behind and go to linux.
