b. Do you remember making any recent changes to your computer?

Back up the registry**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry**

  1. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
  3. You'll see an entry on the right called InitialKeyboardIndicators. The "usual" default value is 0. Double click on this entry and change the value to 2.
  4. Close registry editor.

Restart the computer. The issue should be fixed by now.

    If it occurs in MS Office products, than it is connected with VisualBasic bug http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179987 that exists since 2004!

    You are probably using macros that cause this problem. Only way to fix it is to contact the author of macro - he needs to make some changes (everything he needs is in the KB).

    Or you can use a program to auto-enable NumLock if it's off.

    This also works with Windows 8 because I have a Windows 8 Laptop and it was happening with me so I looked up how to sort it and it works.

    Below is a copy of my registry key  to try and fix the mouse problem. As you can see the value is a crazy number. Should I change it to 0, 1, or 2?

    Below is a copy of my registry key  to try and fix the mouse problem. As you can see the value is a crazy number. Should I change it to 0, 1, or 2?  For some reason I cannot attach a snip but the number in the "initialkeyboardindicators is 2147483642.  I have another computer "laptop" also running Windows 7 and a similar number is in the initialkeyboardindicators.
