b. Do you remember making any recent changes to your computer?

Back up the registry**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry**

  1. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
  3. You'll see an entry on the right called InitialKeyboardIndicators. The "usual" default value is 0. Double click on this entry and change the value to 2.
  4. Close registry editor.

Restart the computer. The issue should be fixed by now.

    I am using Windows 10.  My keyboard is connected to the computer through a USB hub.

    Randomly while I am using the computer the numlock key would go off.  The rest of the keyboard functions normally.  This will happen many times during the work day.

    I have made the change to the registry, and that seems to have fixed the boot issue, but the issue I have now happens while I am using the computer.   I turn numlock on and five minutes later it is off.

    This never used to happen on Windows7 (about two months ago).

    My InitialKeyboardIndicator value is 2147483648, what does this mean and what will happen if I change this to just 2?

    I switched the scroll lock and num lock keys around on my keyboard, and that fixed it for me.

    I tried this for windows 10 and it did not work.  How do you do it in 10?

    Registry changes seem to work for some people, they didn't work for me.

    Shame on Microsoft for ignoring this huge frustration!

    I have now installed Windows 10 - and NumLocker 1.0 works perfectly with it.

    When you have installed it, choose the option that suits you - I use Always On for Num Lock.

    NumLocker also gives an audible and visual warning when you use Caps Lock, which I find helpful.

    Caps Lock and Scroll Lock can also be set to Always On or Always Off.

    A great little utility!

    (But it shouldn't be necessary . . . )
