a. Was it working fine earlier?

b. Do you remember making any recent changes to your computer?

Back up the registry**http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry**

  1. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
  3. You'll see an entry on the right called InitialKeyboardIndicators. The "usual" default value is 0. Double click on this entry and change the value to 2.
  4. Close registry editor.

Restart the computer. The issue should be fixed by now.

    My number and keyboard is HP WHITE WIRELESS   HP Pavilion All-in-one 24-r014.

    The keyboard looks different than my old HP keyboard it had Num lock button.

    This one probably has one also ,but I can't tell which one after a lot of trying.

    Help would be wonderful. Or a diagram to identify each key and it's function.

    My hp laptop did the same. I bought a MS keyboard but still have to switch on the numlock after restarting.

    I have an Acer Aspire R.  I have the same problem.  I performed the same fix.  It works for a while after I turn on the laptop.  But it will not continue to work.  I contacted Acer.  I was told that it is in the system ware, i.e. that is how the computer was made and there is nothing you can do about it.  I will never buy this laptop again.  Why they would put a 10 keypad on a laptop and then have the numkey keep turning itself off is just plain dumb.  If they think you don't need a keypad, don't put it on the laptop!!

    If they have put it "in the computer" it is either in their bios or their Acer bloatware that comes with the computer.  I am virtually certain it is not a hardwire option on a motherboard.  As such, their reply sounds like they either misunderstood you or were wishing you were not talking to them.

    I am betting on it being in the Acer bloatware, particularly since it stopped and then restarted.  I have not had even that much luck; it consistently disables on lock even.
