[SOLVED] Windows 7 64 bit crashes constantly with games - APPCRASH - Fault Module Name: d3d9.dll

Greetings,

I had Vista 64 and now upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. 80% of my games crash on load.

As other I have googled the shiznit out of this, it seems most people crash some time into a game, I crash without the thing loading at all.

My setup.

Processor Information:

Qx9770 (I run clocked and not clocked, all modes crash)

Asus Striker II Extreme motherboard

Windows Version:

Windows 7 (64 bit)

Video Card:

These games run off Steam mainly but also games not in steam crash.

Fallout 3

Halfllife 2

Ghostbusters

JadeEmpire

MassEffect

Mirror's Edge various others.

Surprisingly Crysis works, Company of heroes also.

Hello Ericsz,

There are several issues that can cause this and other problems that lead to the Appcrash error. There is another post that has several steps to troubleshoot the issue, try those steps and see if they help.

It's better to start your own thread. This one's a bit old , and the OP relates to a DX9 problem.

Anyway -

Nothing to do with RAM, at least nothing to do with 4GB system RAM on a 64bit OS crashing games

(unless maybe, and rarely, if there is no Page File). However, overloaded VRAM will cause crashing.

Deterioration can come with time when a lot of data is installed, uninstalled and changed about.

Do you use Windows Disk Cleanup and defragment your HDD regularly ?

Keeping the number of Startup programs to a minimum to keep maximum resources available when running games also helps.

Spy-ware & Trojans can also slow a machine down a fair bit.

Corrupt saves can also cause problems. Try a save from before the crashes.

Have you monitored your cpu and gpu temperatures to verify they are not overheating ?

Compatibility Center - Pay it no mind, The compatibility centre is flawed. Many games listed there as

incompatible are quite compatible. Some may need a workaround but they are basically compatible.

I have 8GB of RAM and my machine still crashes every time I try to load a game. Occationally a game will allow me a few minutes of play before crashing, but normally games crash immediately when I try to load them.

The problem wasn't this bad when I first installed windows 7 (clean) - e.g FSX worked. But these days nothing seems to work. I know there is a supposed compatitbility issue with FSX on 64bit but it worked well for ages before giving up and failing to launch.

Hi,

I have Windows 7 ultimate 64bit 12 gb of RAM. My graphics card- GT560 Ti. When I Installed new drivers ->(280,285,290) they started to crashing constantly in games such like Dead Island or BF3. I tried to back to old driver (275) but it doesn't installing. I don't know what else can I do. (I tried all steps from the link)

Hi all ..i`ve specifically became a member of this forum just bcause i think i can help with the crysis problem..I recently bought a crysis game cd after i succesfully install n played crysis 2 on my new rig the asus N55s with a nvidea gt555 graphic card. I have problems to play the game though i manage to successfully install it. I knew theres nothing wrong with my lapyop since its a new one n everything is updated so i thought tht it must be something wrong with the installation process. Well im not that far off. For those who install through cd im sure ull see in the game folder tht theres some data which are either in rar or zip format. If u look in the game installation cd itself theres some data in those two formats and these format is later carried on into the game folder after installation. what i did was i unrar or unzip all the data from the folder data, data 11 and data 12 or whatever their names are in ure cd and merge them into one big folder in the game folder and walla...i could play the game on window 7 with no problem. No need to update anything first as i did tht with version 1.0 and played it with no problem at all. Give it a try i hope tht can help .
