Hello rghaynes_710, welcome.

I would attempt to delete and recreate the active desktop. If that does not work, perhaps the content on the website itself is having technical problems.

You can also attempt to reset Internet Explorer back to defaults to see if that resolves the issue.

  1. Click START
  2. Click 'Control Panel'
  3. Double click 'Internet Options'
  4. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and select 'Reset...' at the very bottom of the Window
  5. Restart your computer

    A "sledge hammer" approach that I use is to login as another user with Administrator rights and delete the profile of the "problem user".  When the user logs in again - his profile is automatically re-created ... and all is well.

    Since you will loose everything in the old profile - like bookmarks ect etc - this should be used as a "last resort" - but - it works ...

    XP will not restore active desktop

    just follow the instructions on the screen to restore the active desktop.. | right click the desktop>properties>choose theme>apply....  if not then follow the instructions from "NightHawk02"...

    Follow these instructions, u can solve ur prob:

    1.Go to Run, type regedit and hit enter

    2.Go here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components

    3.Select the value DeskHtmlVersion

    4.Select the Decimal radial button

    5.Change the value of 272 to 0

    6.Most of the time it might take a few seconds for your background to appear and other times…you might need to restart your computer.

    this will work fine:

    desktop.htt pretty much controls the size and position of your desktop and the wallpaper you have on it, plus it includes a little activeX control to allow you to reshape it..... IE7 is a little bit incompatible with the old profile you may have had already.

    Since this file is automatically generated by windows, the best fix is to delete the old one[s] and let windows create a new one. To do this open an explorer window and go to tools > folder options > view, and uncheck hide protected opsys files. Apply and ok. Then do a search in your sys drive [usually c: ] for desktop.htt. It will be in Docs and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.

    Delete them [it, whatever...]. Close the explorer window, rclick your desktop and click Refresh, and then go back and RECHECK that box. you really don't want those special files exposed all the time!!
