• Click on Start -> Run
• and paste the command below and enter

%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

• When was the last time you were able to install updates?

• Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

There is a possibility that some windows update components are corrupted.

 I would suggest that you reset windows update components to default and later try to install updates.

Refer the below Microsoft article and run the fix it tool available.

Method 2

Disable security software on the computer and check.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
