when ever i want to update the windows vista home premium,i press check for updates,amessage says the service is not running,you may need to restart your computer,i do so but nothing happens

Hi ghass75,

• When was the last time you were able to install updates?

• Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

There is a possibility that some windows update components are corrupted.

 I would suggest that you reset windows update components to default and later try to install updates.

Refer the below Microsoft article and run the fix it tool available.

Method 2

Disable security software on the computer and check.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Another HOO RAW for Susan!

    A big SHAME ON YOU MICROSOFT!

    My system has been sluggish for months, I run XP SP3 with AVGfree, Adaware, and Spybot.  I gave up on McAfee and Norton a long time ago, not just because they cost money, but because they missed too much and generated too much overhead.  But lately, I couldn't figure out the problem.  I tried MS' MSRT, MSE, but always got errors and unable to connect, can't update, your MS Security Client failed to install, and other rediculous errors.  I tried the "Fix" helper too.  I'm not particularly technical, I just want my computer to work.  I looked on CNET and tried Malwarebytes.  All this virus/malware software just adds to the computer overhead and I think MWB "found" things that weren't really there/causing problems.

    An Internet search "Error number: 0x80070424" brought me to this URL.  I was hoping to find a fix offered by a MS Tech.  And Susan made no reference to her "credentials", just a short "do this."

    I'm not inclined to edit my computer registry for fear of never being able to access my hard drive if something gets corrupted, but with 53 votes of confidence, I backed up my software and gave it a try.

    Sure enough, it worked.  MS Update started working and downloaded 40MB of 21 Essential Security Updates.

    I can't help but think that if 54 people to date have replied with a thank you to Susan, imagine how many other people availed themselves of her fix and never replied. 

    Shame on you Microsoft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is inexcusable.

    Thank you Susan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Whoever you are.

    I just installed Norton 2012 after removing Mcafee. Norton installed then provided the following

    "We have detected that the Windows Base Filtering Engine service is not running. This service is required for the Norton firewall to function correctly. To fix this problem, contact Microsoft support."

    Now i get a 0X80070424 message

    Hi,

    When I am doing the above command and entre REGSVR32.exe file popsup unable do anythig

    From the window I am unable open any icon and I am unable do the window updates when I open any icon same REGSVR 32.EXE pops up

    Please help me
