when ever i want to update the windows vista home premium,i press check for updates,amessage says the service is not running,you may need to restart your computer,i do so but nothing happens

  • Click on Start -> Run
  • and paste the command below and enter

%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

Hi ghass75,

• When was the last time you were able to install updates?

• Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

There is a possibility that some windows update components are corrupted.

 I would suggest that you reset windows update components to default and later try to install updates.

Refer the below Microsoft article and run the fix it tool available.

Method 2

Disable security software on the computer and check.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Susan, i tried this but it did not help me, find a million files was not sure which one i needed to get into. My firewall will not work in Windows Vista. I get a error code for that 0x609. Still get the code for windows Defender as ox80070424. What am I doing Wrong may I ask.

    Hello,

    I am running XP SP3 and not able to get any updates.

    I tried running the command shown, but got error code 0x80070005.

    My user account has administrative privilege.

    The problem started with viruses that were tsince aken out by an anti-virus.

    However, some services were missing from the lists of msconfig,

    such as Windows Firewall, after the attack.
