Hi ghass75,

• When was the last time you were able to install updates?

• Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

There is a possibility that some windows update components are corrupted.

I would suggest that you reset windows update components to default and later try to install updates.

Refer the below Microsoft article and run the fix it tool available.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Method 2

Disable security software on the computer and check.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this helps!

Susan, not sure what little part of computing heaven you come from, but thank you! I have been troubled by this issue for months! Dreading the two hour phone tag game on Microsoft supoport (not to mention the extortion attempts via "service agreements")

This worked perfect on an older Windows XP machine...

@Lendall & anyone else with a similar problem: To avoid confusion, please begin your own, new thread in the appropriate forum. State your current IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista SP2; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 SP1; Win7 64-bit; Win7 64-bit SP1) in your first post. Thank you.

I tried to put in the %system R00t etc and sent.  This is the reply from the address you supplied.  C:\WINDOWS\SYSTE32\REG32EXEC\WINDOWS SYSTEM32 is not accesible  file name etc not correct.    I did put it in and checked it several times as it was writeen.  I noticed on the reply it elimated the first %system Root% and put in the windows and on the Reg RegSVR32.EXE  was changed to REGS32 EXEC:\

NOT SURE WHO IS CORRECT.  ANYWAY I COULD NOT ACCESS THE DOWNLOADS?
