While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.
The details of my network controllers (there are two) are as follows.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I have not yet tried "all" the solutions posted here [thanks, all] but I still have the same problem. I can open a radio station and it plays all day without a problem. Then I begin to browse and it burps with the default gateway lockup.
What annoys me the most is that this Asus Laptop came with Vista, and it worked perfectly for over year. Never a burp.
I formatted the drive and installed Win 7 Pro, and have had this problem ever since, 10-15 times an evening! Very frustrating to continually have to repair it.
How can MS say this is not a problem with Win 7, but there were no problems with Vista?
There definitely seems to be several fixes for this issue.... However none of these above resolutions worked for me :o(
I also was getting the error.... "default gateway is not available" and i was also unable to ping the default gateway.
After much deliberation and roll backing my machine a month at a time. I discovered it was a around the time that my MacAfee antivirus trial had expired that i was unable to access the internet. They must cut access out to the internet when the trial expires assuming it is in the customers interest not to have access to the internet without MacAfee protection.
We simply uninstalled MacAfee and were instantly able to ping the default gateway and access the internet.

I had a similar problem with norton 360. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed for me.

I have the same problem (default gateway not available) with a different Network adapter ! in my PC i have a realtek PCIe GBE Family controller ... So what is the real problem here? if its not the adapter?
