default gateway not available in windows 7

G'day,

While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.

Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The details of my network controllers (there are two) are as follows.

Description . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

   Manufacturer  . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA

   Provider  . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft

   Version   . . . . . . . . . . . : 1.0.1.211

   Inf File Name . . . . . . . . . : C:\Windows\INF\netnvm32.inf

   Inf File Date . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, April 22, 2009  12:47:44 AM

   Section Name  . . . . . . . . . : NVENET55.NDI

   Hardware ID . . . . . . . . . . : pci\ven_10de&dev_0373

   Instance Status Flags . . . . . : 0x180200a

   Device Manager Status Code  . . : 0

   IfType  . . . . . . . . . . . . : 6

   Physical Media Type . . . . . . : 14

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.

I have seen that this is not an isolated  with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I had this situation also.  I tried all of the suggestions in this thread and nothing worked.  I started to undo everything i could think of that i had recently changed.  When i uninstalled VIPRE anti-virus premium the problem stopped occurring.  I am 100% positive this was the problem.  I worked backwards systematically and waited until the problem occurred again before trying something new. I know VIPRE is not a popular program so I am not suggesting that this is the only program that is causing this issue.  Any information that actually solves an issue is helpful so I posted this.  Good luck to all.

Hi Everyone! Wanna post my problem, maybe someone could help me because i didn't found it similar to all problems posted above. I have old hp notebook compaq nc 6120. It has wireless adapter Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG on board. The first thing i have to mention that its not longer supported by intel:

Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection does not support Microsoft Windows* 7

The Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection is no longer being manufactured by Intel, nor will Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with third party devices and software products.

But, after installing win 7 professional 7600 RTM windows update proposed me to install microsoft update for this network adapter, so i could use it in win 7. The second thing i want to tell is how my network managed. I'm using standart adsl modem that my internet provider gave me. That adsl modem connected by cable to my router dlink 300, that provides internet for my home wireless devices.

At first the problem was in absence of connection to router, i tried ping and couldn't do anything with it. I can connect to wireless network that provides dir 300 but i can't ping it after all and can't get to its standart web interface (192.168.0.1). I reinstalled drivers for my intel network adapter and tried vista drivers for this adapter. After that i connected to router but i was losing internet connection every 5 minutes with the same mistake as yours "the default gateway is unavailable". The interesting thing that internet works without any problem if iam switching internet cable from router to pc directly. And after that im pinging router and ping is fine all the time till i switch internet cable from my pc ethernet to router again. I tried to uninstall ipv6, i dont have any bonjour services, i setted up all power management features to nonsleep state. I tried to install xp drivers for my wireless adapter, its not installing at all. Diagnose of my wireless connection doesn't provide any help (reset of wireless adapter etc.). I installed tle latest firmware update for my dir 300, nothing at all. I'm getting mad about all this things. Please help or give me some ideas. Waiting for your soon replys, thanks!

Have you tried to roll back the driver of your ethernet/wireless controller adapter? Worked for me, at least.

Yeah, i tried! Internet works only with vista drivers. I tried with win 7 proposed drivers, doesn't work. With vista drivers i can have internet for some time, till its getting broken. Also i found out that i am loosing internet connection when trying to connect to my office VPN connection.
