While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I tried disabling receive side scaling, my pc has been running all day since and my connection has been fine throughout. I'm not calling it a victory yet, maybe if it stays connected thru tomorrow morning.
ChrisLoz, if you have the nVidia nForce drivers installed, it should have come with a program called nVidia ethernet configuration. The ability to disabling receive side scaling is in that program.
Go to local area connection. Click properties, then click Configure. Go to the advanced tab, and the nVidia program will be there if it's installed.
Receive Side Scaling is in a long menu of options after you initially enter the program and press the first button in the program that starts the process.
If you don't have the program, download the latest nforce driver from Nvidia's website. It comes bundled with it.

Hi Megansaurusrex, thanks for your reply but unfortunately I don't appear to have that 'receive side scaling' option under Configure > Advanced.
I don't know if you guys have found the answer but it sounds like you have the same problem I did. Which was losing internet connection quite a few times a day. Usually during streaming or generally very active internet activity. Doing the troubleshoot would reset something and then it would work for so long. For me it was just a driver setting. After I went into local area connection/networking/configure/advanced I disabled receive side scaling. Ever since it has never happen again. XD I dunno if this will work for everyone but it is definitely worth a shot.
