While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

@NtWrKbiZZle -- I have the same adapter, and have tried steps 1-3 to no avail. I've googled Wireless Channel Bonding but I'm still as clueless as ever about how you actually DO it. Help???
Has anyone come up with a solution for an Intel network adapter? I'm having the exact same problem, but none of these solutions apply to my network adapter.
My PC is a Dell 4600i, ethernet is an on-board Intel Pro/100VE and graphics is an NVidia 7600GS. Old, yes, but been with me since it was supplied with XP 5 years ago, and has been through Vista and now 7, updated as necessary along the way.
I have just reformatted and re-installed Win7 and now I have this very problem!!! After much web-research, I decided to factory-reset my Linksys router(!?). The disconnects, that were usually every 30 to 60 minutes, suddenly stopped! I didn't celebrate too soon as I couldn't believe that ALL the people that are having this problem just needed to reset their routers??? Sure enough, the problem surfaced once again about 12 hours later. The router is, after all, THE Default Gateway!
It "might" be something to do with NVidia so I removed the video card and driver this morning and, although it's too early to tell, I have not been disconnected yet. If I get to 24 hours without incident, I think we can call it a victory! Well, kind-of as I can't use my video card!
If it turns out that NVidia IS the root-cause, it means that 1) Microsoft or NVidia need to come up with a driver or 2) I need to get an ATI video card.
I can't believe that a (probably) very basic, and common, problem hasn't been rectified yet..
Well, THAT didn't work! So, I decided to try a PCI ethernet card (Belkin F5D5005) and have now had 48 hours of un-interupted surfing! The Belkin has Win7 specific drivers, whereas the on-board Intel Pro/100VE does NOT. It HAS to be a driver issue surely?
To keep this discussion up to today's date, June 23, 2010, I have been getting the same "default gateway not available" after upgrading from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 two weeks ago. It happens everytime there are high download transfer rates from the internet, e.g. a streaming video. "Network->Troubleshoot problems" always resets the problem with the celebrated default gateway message. My PC:
Nvidia NFP 3600 nForce network controller, driver version 1.0.1.211 which is up to date. Dual processor, 4 core.
This is a big pain and Microsoft needs to fix it. For example, Microsoft Updates should update the bad software with working software and thereby eliminate the superstitious suggestions posted here which appear to only shift the problem around.
With regard to it being NVIDIA's problem the time for Microsoft to be talking to NVIDIA is long overdue.
